Default Screen Turns off while charging in car

Hey guys, I'm having a slightly annoying problem while using my S5 in my car. I like to stream music from Spotify or pandora to my bluetooth stereo as well as occasionally use Google Maps for directions....but for some reason the screen will not stay on like every other phone I've ever had. I'll have it plugged in and charging and the screen still times out just like it would if it was unplugged....this makes streaming music or using the navigation features pretty much unusable...I don't want to have to enter my pin or swipe a pattern every time I need to see where I'm going or what the current song playing is. Any one else have this problem or a possible solution?...so far the only thing I have come up with is maxing out the screen time out to 10 minutes and just make sure I interact with my phone at least once in that time frame or it will go black again. I'm guessing there is probably some easy setting somewhere that I seem to be overlooking. I'm not sure if the phone behaves the same in "car mode" but I'll never use that since you can't control Spotify or Pandora while in that app (which is dumb).

It's to avoid screen burn-in. You can set it to stay always on while charging though. You have to enable developer options. Go to your about device settings and quickly click on the build number several times - it's something like 5 to 7 times. It will tell you that you are now a developer. Then click the back button and you will see in the settings Developer options. Check the box to stay awake.

Another thought, make sure you are using a 2.1 amp car charger with a usb3 cable. The standard usb chargers don't have the capacity to keep up with the battery drain. The S5 is more like a tablet.

I never heard this before. That is critical for people who use their phone for navigation. Where did you learn of this?

The part about the USB 3.0 is definitely not true. Using a USB 3.0 cable will gain you absolutely nothing when not connected to a computer USB 3.0. It's irrelevant with a car or wall charger. The part about the amperage however you should pay attention to. The combination of navigation with the sceen on and whatever else you have the phone doing can use more power than is being supplied if you are using a low amperage car charger.

a little update: going into "developer mode" and setting the phone screen to never timeout while charge does work but leads to annoying problems with the screen always being on while charging at home...plus the screen automatically turns on when it reaches full charge so sometimes the display would be active all night. I did switch to a better charger (higher amp) and now navigation programs work just fine. As it turns out, most of my issues seem to stem from the Spotify app itself which still won't stay on while driving with the phone plugged in......there seems to be "application level" control over whether or not the screen turns off when charging and spotify does not seem to take advantage of this..which is a shame....there are some 3rd party apps in the Play store that allow you to individually control what apps keep the display on when in use..I might give them a try...I sure hope spotify fixes this issue soon, it seems to have been going on for a long time (according to a lazy and quick Google search) and I'm sure lots of people use the service in their cars.

I'm not a user of Green Power, but reading the menu on it IIRC, there is a place to have it make the screen stay ON when certain apps are running.

Just an FYI for you to look into.

It sounds to me like you might benefit from an app like Keep Screen On, which can be found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ndroid.keepscn

It lets you specify which App you want the screen to always stay on for (i.e. Spotify). Now, that does mean that it will always leave the screen on for that App, whether you're charging or not, but you can always turn your screen off if you're not charging.
