I'm in the market to buy a Galaxy S5 and found someone selling the Canada model SM-G900W8 that is factory GSM unlocked and is not branded to any specific carrier. It's 4G LTE capable but what i'm trying to find out is if it's compatible with 4G LTE frequency bands in the US or would it only be able to run 2G / 3G? Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

I have the W8 from Bell and it's unlocked. I know it works on AT&T and T-Mobile for sure. Verizon is like Wind up here.

Thanks for the help! I see that the LTE bands are the same but will the Canada model run 4G LTE in the US? Is there a difference between the Canada model having HSPA+/HSPA bands and the others having HSPA+/UMTS bands? I use straight talk & AT&T. Straight talk runs off of AT&T towers 850mhz & 1900mhz.

The S5 was intentionally designed to be an International phone.

Canada and the US have always been pretty much compatible.

All you need is a SIM card for the north or south side of the border, OR, pay for international roaming.

I am on Verizon and I went to Canada a couple of years ago. I did not do anything special to my plan, and my phone worked just fine in Canada. I think that I got a minor surcharge for the 5 minutes or so that I used the phone.

And that was a Samsung Galaxy S

I also have some friends up in Canada who spend their winters down in my area. There phones work here just fine and they don't do anything special.

Yeah but not all of the S5's are sim unlocked and from what i have read not all of them are region unlocked either. I actually already knew that the phone would work in the US running 2G or 3G but the main thing that i am mostly concerned with that no one answered is if the Canada model is going to be capable of running 4G LTE in the US or not?

I learned something new today about the phone i was thinking about getting as the seller had just informed me that the SM-G900W8 phones they're selling aren't from Canada, They're from Puerto Rico and show a Claro logo screen during start up. That little bit of info right there sure would have been nice to know before as here i was thinking that the model G900W8 was specifically for Canada only? Now i really don't know if i should get it or not and does it make a difference being that it's from PR as i can't find anything online about the PR version?

I just found out it's the Puerto Rico version from Claro even though it has the exact same model number SM-G900W8 as the Canada version which now i don't know if i should get it or pass on it as i can't find out if there are any major differences being it's the PR version?
