Default Can you block texts on the S5?

I got a text this morning from someone I only keep in my contact list so I will never accidentally answer if they call. I then went to contacts and added them to my reject list.

Later I added a coworker to the reject list and had them call and text me. The call did not ring and a notification appeared that a call from that number was rejected. It didn't even give the name even though the number was in my contact list.

When the coworker texted me it came through perfectly. Not blocked or rejected in any way.

On my old thunderbolt I could flat out block people. I wouldn't get any indication whatsoever if they tried to call or text me. Is there any way I can do something like this with my S5?

You can. Hold down on their message and hit "add to spam numbers" and it will not allow them to text you either.

Honestly though if someone is contacting you that you don't like I'd talk with your carrier... They can block it from their end if you want that way.. No matter the phone.. They can't contact you.

I've done this as well through my carrier, directly on their web site I can block specific numbers from texting or calling, up to 50 numbers.

That didn't work on my S5. Maybe it's a note thing.

I'd just go the carrier route then.

Press and hold to select, then on the new screen up at the top right you should see a circle with a line through it and a small plus(+) symbol, tap that circle to add to spam or on the screen displaying the list of texts, press the three dot menu button on upper right of screen, tap select, then select the text message from the list and then tap the circle symbol in the upper right of the screen. Both of those methods add the selected text message to the Spam lists.

A major problem with any kind of blocking, is that persistent pests can get around it so easily.

Just to a text website and send it in the blind, goes right through.

I use this website a lot to send myself links from my PC to my phone.

Ignore the reference to Verizon, it works on any carrier.... It is no longer a Verizon specific site.

Verizon Text Message - Send Verizion Text Messages

or, to send something in a hurry to a friend and my phone is tied up doing something else.

I appreciate the suggestions, I guess there is no way to do this with the stock messaging app on the s5. I checked on someones note 3 and the long press method definitely works on the note 3 but not the s5.

The solution seems to be to change my default messaging app. I like that you can do this on the s5. On my old Thunderbolt if I wanted to use Handsent, I would have to run it on top of the stock app and turn off notifications so I didn't get double texts. It appears that the process has been streamlined and all I have to do is install the texting app of my choice and set it as the default messaging app.

Any suggestions for a favorite app? I like having an icon that reports the number of unread texts on my homescreen. In the past this was my biggest complaint with handsent.

I use Mr. Number to block calls, esp "private" or blocked calls.
But then again, I have never had a problem blocking texts and calls on the phone itself. I have an s5 active which I got in November.

The issue that bothers me is I get spam texts, and I've never had that issue w any other phone....spam, like what you get in email--only in my text messaging. If it's a Droid thing, I may (grudgingly) hafta get back on the iPhone bandwagon.

I do know that when iPhone users can't seem to send a pic, asking them to turn off iMessage works for me.

If you are a Sprint Customer you can text 9999 and in the bodt of the message "block 1234567890" This works GREAT on Sprint and is done at the carrier level. I have 0 problems ever getting things again I shouldn't. If you want to allow it again, you text "allow 1234567890" This is great for people who are bugging you, but you don't hate them, so you can block them for a day if needed, then bring them back. lol Also both cases take place instantly! There is no delay.
