The Samsung message app worked perfectly until I downloaded 4.4.4. Now all my text messages disappear at least ten times a day and the only way to get them back is to do a restart.

Any time they are missing and I try to send one, it says messages has stopped.

anyone have any ideas verizon tech could not figure it out.

Thanks,
Oz

Re: messages disappearing

If you didn't back everything up before the update you might lose those messages.
Do you have the phone to back up data and restore automatically?

Re: messages disappearing

the phone restored perfectly after the update.
This is reoccurring in general use during the day. I sometimes open the messages app and there would be none there. as if I'd never sent or received any. if I try to send the new one it shuts the app down. the only way for it to work is to do a restart

Re: messages disappearing

Go to app manager
Force stop the app
Uninstall all the app updates.
Clear cache for the app
Clear data for the app
Shut the device down
Reboot the device
Reinstall the updates
Reboot the device

That should do it for you.

Re: messages disappearing

I just got the S5 yesterday. after the flurry of log-ins, set-ups and updates, the stock text app crashed. I just downloaded textra, set it as default and voila! no more issue!

Re: messages disappearing

Great to hear but you should also fix the crashed app as outlined above so that all is clear. Just to let you know I use this method anytime a stock app crashes. It works on most of the apps that are installed from Samsung and the carrier.

Textra is a great message app.

I hope everyone who's updating their phones realize that by doing so through an unsecured WiFi connection is taking a big risk at getting a faulty update. It's best to go to your provider and do it. Myself for instance, I go to the Samsung booth at my local BestBuy and have them do it for free.

Tried to use the above fix, but there is no button to uninstall updates. Where should I look?

Thank you

Looks like the new update changed a few things. Just use the button that turns off the app. Being that your using Textra this should be enough to fix it. Enjoy.!!

Sorry my bad. It was another poster using textra.

Here is a fix for you.

Go the app manager
Find the app under the all catagory.
Turn it off
Clear the cache
Clear the data
Shut the device down and then reboot.
Go back to the app manager and under all restart the app.
All should be ok now for the Samsung text app.

Good luck.

I have one very solid suggestion for any Verizon user.

Before you allow any update, be sure you have the Verizon Cloud enabled as it will keep your messages on their server. It is free, use it.

Even if you do a Factory Reset, when the phone is back in service, all your messages are still there.

Great advice.
Also use Google, SMS back up plus as redundancy.
