O2 SIM in Verizon Galaxy S5

I'm going to be in Germany in a couple of weeks and want to use my Verizon Galaxy S5 while I'm there. I've read that the S5 isn't SIM-locked and should work with foreign SIMs, but I'm unsure of an prep-work I should do before I leave, or anything else I should be aware of before buying a pre-paid SIM in Germany.

Has anybody used a German O2 LTE SIM in a Verizon Galaxy S5? If so, can you walk me through the basics?
