I JUST UNLOCKED MY PHONE AFTER 4 DAYS BEING LOCKED OUT BECAUSE THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER IS A F'ING JOKE AND I COULDN'T REMEMBER THE ALTERNATIVE PASSWORD.
Please note: If you fail all 10 attempts for the alt password, your phone WILL factory reset, there is no option at the end to use your google account like some people said.
I HAD OVER A DOZEN OF PEOPLE BETWEEN VERIZON AND SAMSUNG TELL ME THAT I HAD TO FACTORY RESET IT WAS THE ONLY OPTION! I BELIEVED IN MY HEART THAT WAS A CROCK. SO I KEEP WAITING AND RESEARCHING AND CALLING AND ONLINE CHATTING WITH PEOPLE AND I TRIED EVERYTHING I FOUND IN THE FORUMS AND NOTHING WORKED. THEN I FINALLY GOT A VERIZON AGENT WHO KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING. HONESTLY I DON'T KNOW HOW MOST OF THE TECHS GET THEIR JOB. I COULD DO THEIR JOB BETTER, ITS JUST SAD. ANYWAYS THIS GUY WAS GREAT AND PATIENT AND THERE WAS ONE STEP EVERYONE LEFT OUT THAT HE TOLD ME AND THANK GOD BECAUSE IT WORKED AND I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK INTO MY PHONE NO PROBLEM! Sorry about all that, I was very frustrated.

HERE'S WHAT YOU DO:
On the web or from another phone you want to search for google android device manager.
You can also download it from the google play store (market) as well.
Your cell phone must be on!! If it is getting close to a dead battery just to be safe I would charge it a bit and then try this. It doesn't run down the battery or anything but just to be safe, and so you don't have to do it all twice, hopefully.
As long as you know your google login info you are set, if you don't know it, figure it out first, reset your password or whatever you have to do because this is the only way you can get back into your phone.
Note: ONLY USE THE GOOGLE ACCOUNT LINKED TO YOUR PHONE! (this should be obvious...)

Log in using your google info.
I'm going to be honest I can't quite remember the next steps but it should walk you through it. you may need your phone number or the model number of your phone, or actually I think it just does it itself since it's linked, I'm not sure but put in whatever info you need to and it will start to locate your device.
This app is great to use if you lose your phone as well since it will locate it for you, its not going to show you an exact location, but mine is showing its within 20 meters and looking at the dot of where it's at, it's on the same street that I am on. That's pretty good if you ask me. It will help you figure out if you lost your phone at a friends house or if a stranger has it and it's pretty much gone for good. But the other great thing about this app is if you did lose it, say you only use the swipe feature now because you are scared to get locked out again, well you can use this app to lock it with a pin and add a message on the lock screen with a phone number as well so if you are lucky and an honest person finds your phone, (which has happened to my bestie before, a stranger found it in a taxi, we just kept calling til someone answered and they left it at the hotel's front desk that they were staying at) they will have a way of contacting you and giving it back. Maybe add a message that says something about irreplaceable pictures to tug at their heartstrings. Another great option, say you are the kind of person that always misplaces things, well if you lost your phone say, inside your house, you can go on here and click on the ring option, it will then call your phone, even if your phone is set to vibrate or silent or on a low setting, it will ring for 5 minutes at full volume! Yes I tested it to be sure.

Anyways, on to the unlocking!!! Dahh da dahhhhh!!!
It's so easy it's almost upsetting. After logging in and it locates, you will see 3 options, ring, lock, erase. Chose lock. you will then be prompted to chose a pin, you can put in anything you want but I would suggest to keep it simple so you do not forget it. If you lost your phone and you are locking it, I would suggest to send yourself an email with the pin you chose so if you get your phone back, even if it is days or weeks later you can get into it. Or write it down if you wont lose it. I however lose paper stuff easily so I suggest the email method. If you have the phone in front of you and you are locked out and trying to get back into it just chose something easy like 1234. and you have the option to put in a message as well. I chose to set the pin to 1234 and then put that in the message section just in case I couldn't get into my phone or I got distracted, I didn't want to take the chance of forgetting. Your phone lock screen will then change to a black screen with your message on it. You can then hit the home button and it will go back to your normal screen, if you lock the phone the black screen will come up again. On your normal lock, it should no longer say Alternative Password, it should say PIN. You can then enter your pin and voila! You are back in your phone. If you do get the black screen and then hit the home key and it does not say PIN, you then need to restart your phone. Don't shut it down, you have to restart it. And when it restarts the black screen will come back on and then hit the home and it should then say PIN. Ta da! I really hope this helps. Everyone left out the restarting part so I tried over and over and shut it down and pulled the battery out and everything and could not get it to work. If that does not work turn the phone off and on again and then try to lock it all over again. And restart it if needed. Just keep trying it until it works. GOOD LUCK!!! :D:D:D:D:D:cool:
