There's a new Google Maps widget called "Google Maps Driving Mode". It cuts out a lot of the unnecessary prompts and gets you straight to finding and navigating to a destination. Long-press a blank space on your Home screen and go to Widgets and it's there under Google Maps. Drag it to your home screen and give it a try!

I also like the Google Now set to allow "OK Google" everywhere.

I want to show alternate route as like in google maps ,when we search for direction google map will give us alternative route in gray color...
but I am unable to activate that attribute of direction api...if you found any reference please tell me....

I am totally frustrated by not having alternative routes or the ability to change. Right now i know that i have to use an alternate freeway because there is a race winding through streets around me. Even several freeways are being used. Many streets (and parts of the 2 freeways also) are closed, or only have traffic one way (the opposite way i need), or are crowded with racers, joggers, walkers, and all the watchers and sponsors of the event.
Google maps doesn't recognize these street closures and one-way changes. And i can't find any way to choose the roads i need. So maddening and frustrating!!

It won't load. I get a network error both with WiFi and network data. All other apps work fine. It worked several hours ago. If anyone can try their application to see if your's work. I've never had a problem with Google maps for the 2 years I've used it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for your help. I have the same version and tried both of your suggestions. Neither worked. I'm very frustrated. Any other ideas.?

Have you updated the Maps app or OS since this issue? Uninstalling updates and reverting the app back to its factory version may fix it.

I had faced this issue once. The only thing that worked for me was going to my list of applications->Maps->Clear Data->Uninstall updates.

After this I went to the store and updated the maps app. It worked after that.

Tried it and it doesn't work. Nothing I've tried works. I'm at my wits end. Here is the screenshot.

Just checked my Maps, worked fine, have you tried Waze? it is a pretty good map/direction app too.
