I have downgraded to 4.42 after the crappiness that is is Lollipop however the damn thing auto downloads again, you can ignore it a while but it eventually auto installs again. Any way of stopping this without root?

Booting to recovery and clearing CACHE, then booting back to the OS and pressing INSTALL for the update will result in it failing and giving you another day without the update, apparently this has to be repeated each time the notification appears

Clearing the cache deletes the update file, so when you press install, there is nothing for it to install and it fails, giving you another day or so

Root, then unroot. The update will still fail. Or root, freeze the update app, unroot. (I don't know why having su on the phone bothers you - if you don't run a rooted app it won't be called anyway.) The phone won't see update requests any more. When they fix the bugs, back up, reflash 4.4.2 and update.
