How to recover pictures from SD card

I have a Samsung S5 with a 32gb SD card. The other night my from completely froze for approx. 30 seconds and then I lost everything saved on the SD card. The card cannot be read by the phone nor be mounted. When trying to mount the card the phone says mounting SD card then card is safe to remove. I connected it to my computer and it says card needs to be formatted when clicking on the drive letter where the card is place via an adapter. we tried to mount the card on 2 other phones with the same results. Has anybody heard of problem like this and is there any recovery software that I might use to get my pictures back?

Welcome to the forums. You can try to dismount the card from the phone and put it in your PC. The PC might be able to see them. Otherwise there are programs available online to recover pictures. I cannot verify any; I haven't had a need to do this before.
