How can I get my S5 to recognize the finger print password?

Help. I have a galaxy s5 will not recognize finger print password

When I try to access my phone the only option is a keyboard and not a finger swipe panel. I put in my alternate password many times then get error saying cannot verify your finger print wait 30 secs try again

Welcome to Android Central! Are you certain you're entering the correct backup password? If you fail enough times, does it ask for your Google credentials?
