While trying to attach pictures to text messages, pictures covered by icon of mountains

I have a galaxy s5, verizon, use Message+ app. I've had this problem since buying the phone over a year ago.

Here's what happens:
I go to attach a picture to a text, click on '+' > 'Gallery' > 'all pictures'

At this point I see pictures and can attach them.

If I scroll up, I start seeing 'corrupt' pictures that are covered by an icon of grey mountains, all pictures further up are covered by this icon.

If I then scroll back down to the start, the pictures I could originally see, are now covered by the same icon.

I can only see the newest ~50 pictures before they start getting covered by the mountain. This makes sending anybody some older pictures a nightmare.

Please help!

P.S. sorry for the crappy imgur psuedo-links. I tried uploading images directly to the post as well as posting links. The site told me I'm not allowed to do either.
