Can't send txts while out of US

I'm on VZ and I use Textra for texting. I recently got to Taiwan and tried to send a txt, but get a "Something went wrong with sending. Please try again." message. The other 2 stock text apps won't send out texts either. Last year I had an old flip phone and it let me send txt's just fine.

Do I need to add a "+1" prefix to my phone numbers for this to work?

EDIT: Try, this suggestion, on another forum..

"It is simple, go to phone dialer > Settings > Call > Assisted dialing
Inside assisted dialing where it say Reference country select your country.
than edit Country code by adding a + in front of the number there.

You are done just don't forget to turn Assisted dialing On."

I restarted the phone, and the stock Samsung app was working without phone number modification. Textra still doesn't work but after some looking around this is a known issue with them.
