The S6 Edge is more trouble than it's worth

I have several issues with this new Samsung "Flagship" phone:
1. Battery life sucks: I am a normal user. I don't play video games, I do take an occasional picture, I check my mail from time to time and generally make about 2 phone calls a day, 5-10 text messages/ day and that's about it. No joke, I get 3.5 hours of battery time. I can hold it in my hand and watch the battery go down about 1% every minute with nothing else going on in the background. Even tried using a case with a built in battery and it could not keep up with the phone sucking the life out of its own battery.
2. It warms up to an uncomfortable level on any phone call more than a minute long.
3. The "quick charge" takes 4 hours to go from 5% to full. It also makes the phone very warm as does any kind of charge I use charger, car, computer USB.
4. It lags on almost every screen change.
5. Every day it asks me to select something as either one time only or always. Apparently always doesn't mean always.
6. I am using the version of Lollypop that came with the phone (5.0.1). When I search for updates I'm told it's up to date. My phone plan is with Verizon.
Something has to happen here because this phone may look good, feel good, have a great camera but it is a power hog!

Battery Tips for Android

1. Toggle off High Accuracy GPS Mode, Bluetooth, NFC,
Hotspot/Tethering. Toggle on only as needed. (Set GPS Mode to "Battery
Saving" Mode).
2. Display Brightness - Turn off Auto Brightness and Reduce Setting
Bar to Minimum Acceptable to you.
3. Sign out of any unused Google Services like G+, Google Now, Hangouts, etc.
4. Disable Location Reporting and Location History.
5. Beware of constantly syncing in background Apps and Bloatware like
Facebook, Twitter, Weather Channel, Games, Google News/Weather,
Non-Push Email, etc. Set Sync interval for every 1 hour or more and
change settings to stop the syncing of data you don't need. Delete
their Apps and use their Web Page if acceptable.
6. Turn Off Hot Word "Hotword Detection" Always Listening Mode in
Google Search if you don't use it.
7. Turn Off Auto Camera/Photo Upload or at least set it for Upload on WIFI Only.
8. Turn Off Vibrate on Touch for Display, Keyboard, etc.
9. Turn Off Touch Sounds and Unlock Sounds.
10. Turn Off Ambient Display/Active Display Notifications if you don't need it.
11. Don't use a Live Wallpaper. Use a dark wallpaper if possible.
12. Set Display Sleep Setting to 2 Minutes or Less.
13. WIFI Settings - Advanced -
a. Network Notification - Set as OFF.
b. Scanning Always Available - Set as OFF.
c. Keep WIFI on during Sleep - Set as ALWAYS if you regularly use
WIFI. OK to keep WIFI on if you regularly use it.
14. Turn Off Always Vibrate in Gmail/Email.
15. Be careful of using too many Live Widgets and what/how often they sync.
16. Set MS Exchange Sync at 30 Days or Less if you use it.
17. Do NOT use a Task Killer App or Battery Saver App.
18. Uninstall ALL Apps that you never use. If you haven't used an
App in one month, uninstall it.
19. Reboot your phone at least once a month.
20. Wipe Cache Partition at least once a quarter or after every OS Update.
21. Consider a Factory Data Reset with a manual re-sync, manual
reinstall of all data and Apps after every major OS Letter Update.
Make sure that all of your data is first backed up to Google and
Dropbox, etc.

"I SUFFER NO HARDSHIPS DOING THIS" - this means that i personally am
giving up NOTHING with these tips. i'm not giving up any features.
there are no tradeoffs for me. a tradeoff or a hardship would be to
turn off PUSH email or use AIRPLANE mode during the day etc.

you have to find your own balance and the tips list is a start but you
must come to your own conclusion as to what's important. it's personal
preference but these are not a big deal to me at all as they do not
affect the function or operation of my phone. these tips do not
deteriorate my experience.

You say its official like its been declared by samsung but every issue youve menetioned ive not had on my edge

batterys the best of any phone ive had
dosnt heat up unless intense gaming which i rarely do
quickcharge charged in no time to me only ever done from 50% to full using it but its normally done it in about 30 mins

it sounds like your phones a dud, i mean it sounds like that form the start yet you continue on, either do a factory reset or get the phone swapped.

having a faulty phone is no method of judging the actual phone. My edge has been superb get a working one and see if you feel the same

Try rooting your device and deleting the carrier bloatware. I go into your applications in the time being and disable every app you don't use. They can hog resources. I wouldn't be surprised if maybe you have a bad app

The other day, I went to Starbucks and ordered a Grande Blonde with Soy Milk. It tasted horrible, a combination of burned coffee and spoiled soy milk. I can't understand why people drink Starbucks since it is all burned coffee and spoiled soy milk. I mean, really, how is it that they have 21,000 stores when their product OFFICIALLY tastes so bad?

My S6 edge doesn't expierence any of the problems yours has. I would get yours replaced as it seems to be defective.

1. If your phone is going down 1% every minute, that is def. not normal. Maybe check your cell standby? I have 60% left now and have been 5 hours on battery.
2. This is what makes me think your phone is defective. I had a HTC one m7, and that phone heated up. But even with heavy use, I've never had this phone become even warm to the touch.
3. This is also very weird. When I connect my s6 with the quick charger, even from 5% it usually never takes more then 80-90 minutes to charge. If when you connect it, it says it will take 4 hours to charge, your phone is definitely broken.
4. I've never exoierenced this or heard of this.
Not sure what to even say.
5. Mine doesnt do this either. It asked me a few tines the first week, but that was it.

Really, I mean no offense to this, but instead of writing up this laundry list of complaints, you should have taken the time to search a little bit, and if you did you would have come to the realization that you absolutely are dealing with a total dud, and you should replace it immediately. When you get your new phone, skip setting anything up and go straight to checking for updates. If it's up to date, then go straight into recovery and factory reset the phone. I usually do it three times back to back to back just to insure a thorough wipe. Then boot up and set the phone up and follow all the other battery saving tips that have been posted to death in these forums and you should be good to go.

Your issues are absolutely, positively NOT NORMAL!

Btw, I also have a Verizon edge and it's a phenomenal device. Not a single one of the problems you listed.

Good luck.

I agree sounds like you may need to exchange your device, however these suggestions equate to: turn your phone off when you're not using it

Re: It's Official, The S6 Edge is more trouble than it's worth

I know you're just venting and I can respect that. Just kind of rubs me the wrong way that your very first post is this one. As if you just joined AC forums to complain and initiate some type of flame war. Honestly I do think your unit may be defective and I would encourage you to try to exchange it or do whatever you have to do in order to get a new one. I have had none of the problems you state. I hope it works out for you.

I mostly agree with you, TBH. If I have to turn off GPS, Bluetooth, NFC, Google Now (yikes), vibration, and widgets, consider Twitter and Facebook to be Bloatware, use a dark wallpaper, set MS Exchange Sync at 30 days, turn off vibration notifications for email accounts, and set brightness down to minimum acceptable setting, I might as well get a flip phone.

FWIW, the Sony Z3 that I replaced could do ALL of that and last a day and a half, so it is clear that the battery issue does not have to be Android related.

Still, I would rather accept the battery life compromises to not live in the beautiful garden. I'm just saying that there's no reason to live in a bombed-out ghetto either.

Off the bat, the fact that quick charge is so messed up makes it clear that you have a defective device. Clearly something is mechanically wrong with the battery system.
It sucks. It's annoying to have to trudge back to the store to get it replaced and set up your new device. But such is life. They have made millions of these. Even with excellent quality control there are going to be some duds.

you don't HAVE TO do anything. the point is you if you want to MAXIMIZE battery life you can turn things off that you aren't using. it only makes sense. there is a FINITE amount of juice in ANY battery. you choose how you want to spend that juice. by default most of these devices have every feature set as ON whether you use them or not. i prefer to change the settings in my phone to only use those features that i personally use and need so i can maximize battery life. i don't leave all the lights and TVs on in my house 24/7 - i turn them on when i need them. i'm not giving anything up. my phone does everything exactly like i want it to. i'm not missing out on anything. it's no hardship for me. it's life. life is a delicate balance. it's up to you to find that balance.

Re: It's Official, The S6 Edge is more trouble than it's worth

Hey, thanks for taking the time to write a very informative post. It's comprehensive and definitely would have required too much time for ME to do it!:D

Re: It's Official, The S6 Edge is more trouble than it's worth

Battery life differs from phone to phone and user to user. So many factors are involved in how long or not so long a battery lasts. I have had my phone barely drop much in use one day and drop 15-20% while just sitting at my desk. I toggle different things on/off and its just random it seems. What I do know is the more location based services you have on the more the battery is going to drain.

You sound like an Apple lover, not loving technology much. Return the Edge and go get one...

That's a bit of an exaggeration but I agree with you. I can't help but shake my head when people suggest turning off so many things and then saying it doesn't really compromise functionality.
