Why won't my Windows 7 recognize / see my S6 Edge?

windows 7 won't recognize / see s6 edge

Hi, I have been trying to connect my s6 edge to win7 without luck
I have tried the following (solo and mixing some changes) :

upgrade to latest Kies3
install Smart Switch
install Samsung USB driver
change the PC USB port
enable and disable the developers option
enable and disable the USB debugging

all resulted in the PC to be charging the s6 edge battery

any help is highly appreciated

Change the USB cable. If it's the one that came with the phone it's defective (or the port in the phone is). If not, it could be a "charge only" cable, the kind you get with wireless headsets. There are no data wires in them because they don't do data (and saving 3 feet of copper in every one of tens of thousands of cables you send with your product is saving a lot of money.)

I feel ashamed lol. I have never thought of that and I know about the USB cables differences.
