How is Samsung's long term "unlocked" software support?

The other day, I bought the last US unlocked S7 Edge from my local Best Buy's shelves. I know presently, my carrier (At&t) is rolling out July security patches to their S7e while the unlocked has no update in sight. It appears the same thing happened with the May patch; the unlocked got the update shortly after the carriers.

Obviously this is a Samsung issue. What's the unlocked support for past devices like these days? Eventually the carriers *will* drop or severely delay software support, likely around the time the S7's replacement comes out. Giving up the carriers features (like wifi calling) is only worth it if I can expect somewhat timely software updates for at least a year and a half after release of a flagship phone.
