16:9 VS 4:3 Pictures

Not sure which one to pick. It seems you get more pixels using 16:9 aspect ratio. Standard pictures are usually 4:3. Does the S6 capture the same issue regardless and then just crop the extra pixels off the 16:9 image to make it 4:3? If that were the case, I'd assume we should just leave at 16:9 if 4:3 (via settings or cropped from 16:9 afterward) will be the same image either way.

Thanks for any insight.

I wondered this same thing and many told me to look at what I would do with the pictures. For example, it seems that 4:3 is best for printing. Overall, the responses I received was that most people pushed for 4:3.

You can see the difference between what is captured by taking a couple of pictures of the same scene and going back and forth between the two settings. I ended up going with 4:3.

I keep mine on 16x9. If I'm going to print them, I'll crop them in post production as well as doing any number of other things. That's just what works for me.

It all depends on your sensor size.... the S6's sensor at full blast is 16:9. When you take a 4:3 picture, it is actually taking a full size picture and then discards the extra bits on the right and left hand sides of the screen.

Now, after that... if you ever want to print the picture, then you'll have to crop a 16:9 image. But you most likely would end up fussing with the 4:3 image anyhow. For me, I typically leave my camera at full resolution, no matter what that might be. That gets you a picture with the maximum amount of detail and you can go from there. You can always crop it.

Thanks. I guess I'll just leave at 16:9. If 4:3 isn't at a better resolution, might as well get more image and crop later.

I used 4:3 on my S5 partly for space considerations and partly because I took most of my pictures in portrait, so I'd crop away most of it regardless. Now I'm just using the full 16:9 because I have 128gb and 115gb of One Drive backup, so what the hey.
