Solution:
This will only work if you know your pin/pattern to unlock. I unlocked my phone using this method.
Step 1: You need to get a USB OTG cable/connector if you do not already have one.
Connect the cable to your phone. If you have a pin lock go to step 2 if pattern lock go to step 3
Step 2: Connect your keyboard and type in the pin and press the enter key to unlock. Then remove the OTG and connect to your computer using the regular USB cable. You should see your phone folders in the file explorer of your computer.
Step 3: This is tricky since you have a pattern lock.
If you have another similar phone handy it is easier follow the steps below
1. Connect this phone to the OTG and connect your mouse.
2. Your mouse should be placed on a paper where you will have marked the outline of the mouse this is your starting position.
3. Now tape a pencil to its side so that it marks the movement on the paper or put small piece of color tape on the side of mouse as a reference to mark the movement of cursor on the similar phone for your pattern - do not press the mouse button since you only want to trace your pattern on the paper.
4. Now repeat this procedure on your damaged phone, remember to press and hold the left mouse button to register the pattern, it might take a few tries. The best thing is if you have failed all attempts to trace your pattern it might be asking you for your pin, now you can just connect your keyboard and do the following
1. Hit enter to accept pin
2. Enter your back up pin that you created when you made your pattern lock, and hit enter key again, your phone should unlock. Connect it to your computer and you should be good to go.

One more thing you can try if the pencil trace does not work is to use a transparent sheet, place it on the similar phone and with a marker mark the starting cursor position and the pattern dots and try the steps A below.

Now if you do not have a similar phone don't lose heart, create a square 3 1/2 cm each side on your paper and mark the corner and middle dots for the pattern.
Step A: Place this square's top middle dot about 1.1 centimeter below the starting reference point on your mouse (either pencil taped to your mouse or another reference mark on your mouse)
Now try tracing your pattern, you have to press and hold the left mouse button to register the selection. Listen for the unlock sound for your phone. It will tell you when you have made it successfully.
It is very important to remember that the cursor is always in the center of your phone when you connect your mouse to the OTG connector. Since you might have to try this many times remember to unplug your mouse and plug it back in to get the cursor back to the center of your screen.
