Hey there everyone,

My parents wanted me to pick up an unlocked S6 for them, but I have no idea what model to look for. The whole deal with the radios and frequencies and SIM locking and carrier restrictions and stuff have me all confused.

Basically, we're on Verizon, so I need an S6 that will work on the VZW network, but simultaneously, it needs to be usable internationally (they'll be going to China soon, so it must work there via a SIM card swap -- I assume they use GSM networks?) Would simply getting any 'unlocked' S6 work, or do I need to look at a specific model?

Sorry, not too knowledgeable about this stuff here. Thanks!

Any S6 should work fine but by default even unlocked S6 units come with a region lock. To remove the region lock you have to use the phone to call someone for at least 10 minutes with a sim from the region where you have purchased the unit. If you buy from a carrier then simply ask them to unlock the phone for your parents for their trip to China.

If you want to buy unlocked search for "SM-G920F" on Amazon.
