How Do I Turn The Infernal Voice Assistant Off?

I managed to turn the voice assistant on and now, no matter what, cannot turn it off again.
It has taken over my phone and I have spent at least two hours attempting to switch it off.
For fear of throwing the phone through a window I have put it down and gone to do some gardening!!!!
How in gods name can it be so difficult to turn an option off.

The phone tells me to unlock the screen by swiping with two fingers to unlock screen.. This I have done.
I open the quick settings but can find no way to disable voice assistant.
A window appears representing Voice assistant.
I tap on this twice and a voice says something along the lines of " Notification shade"
anything I touch sends me to a blank page with:

Enter password instead of using fingerprint recognition after restarting device to protect fingerprints.

After trying dozens of time to enter the password, I found that a password can be entered by tapping a letter or number and hitting the keyboard to the rhs of the entry box twice!!!

This I proceed to do numerous times and each time the password was rejected and occasionally a voice would waffle on about "edit box entry password"

I've had smartphones since they came out, albeit, iPhones and have never encountered such a ridiculous issue!!!!!
I thought I'd purchased a smart phone, not an enigma machine!

I love the S7 Edge, but really, this is ridiculous.

Please help.

I encountered the same problem. As long as the voice assistant is enabled, you need to tap any button once to select it (at that moment the Voice Assistant tells you what the button is for), and then twice again to execute it. So three times in total.

So to start with, to enter your password, you tap each character three times. Afterwards, tap 'Done' three times. Then, go to Settings by tapping it three times, etc: Settings->Accessibility->Vision->Voice Assistant->Off.

There seems to be some interference with Facebook messenger that causes this .try in installing messenger by Facebook and then Facebook app . If this works then just use the Web version of Facebook by ensuring you have chrome installed . Goto Facebook log in page . Choose and tap the 3 dots top right . From drop down menu choose ADD TO HOME SCREEN.

Hi! Did you solve this matter? I have the same problem - cannot validate password, because when typing the letters in my password, they actually do not work... :(

Read the previous entries. Tap each button twice. All the answers needed are in the first 2 replies.

hi! I have tapped each button as you said - almost all night long :( It doesn't work - it remains blocked on a letter... I tap letter a, then tap letter b = yet it shows letter a, instead of b... when try to delete it with backspace, it shows letters instead... as when the keyboard doesn't work properly anymore... I will go to a Samsung service and I will come back to you with their solution... damn it! Thank you - and I'll come back soon (hope with better news)

Samsung service centre solved this matter within less than 1 min!
The front desk girl didn't know what to do, suggested reinstall software - but after I have told her how to double tap each letter of my password - she went backdoor and said that to a specialist... in less than 30 sec she brought my phone back.
So... big thanks for this post & help!

I will fix this for all of you. My problem was I was accidentally turning Voice Assistant on because my Otterbox for my GS8+ made the power button hard to depress and I was accidentally pressing the up volume button at the same time when applying counter force. I solved it by going to Settings/Accessibility/Direct access and then in that screen toggling off Voice Assitant. This disabled the stupid feature that turns it on when holding the power and up volume buttons at the same time. At least it works for now. The way settings seem to change back on their own with this phone who knows if it will stick. But FYI you can turn Voice Assistant back off by also holding the power and up volume buttons at the same time.

I just regretted my phone. I had this same exact problem and I restarted the phone as well. Then, at the second time I restarted the phone, I held the Bixby button, upper volume control and power button so I can reset my phone as a brand new phone. It has avoided this issue and I didn't lose anything on my phone as well.

I am late to the party, but had a hell of a time figuring out how to turn this off—if we’re talking about the same thing, it’s called “TalkBack” and can be disabled by holding both the volume up, and volume down button for three seconds simultaneously.

I had this problem for the last 2 days and it was INFURIATING, but finally figured out how to turn it off. It seemed like Voice Assistant was turning on randomly all the time, but I realized that it was always when I touched the side buttons; turns out there was a shortcut on my phone such that by pressing the Power and Volume Up side buttons at the same time, it would activate Voice Assistant.
To turn off: Go to "Settings --> Accessibility--> Direct Access" and then switch the "Voice Assistant" toggle to off, it shouldn't happen again!

It's impossible to do this if you have a password. Even if I tick twice the keyboard, the system won't recognize the right keys. I had forgotten what a ****ty system Android is. Literally I have less than a week with this tablet and it's already broken. I'm off to search for a Samsung technician on Monday and probably just return it.

This video is in Spanish but it shows (at 2:00) how to tap each letter of the password. It's one tap-wait until it's recognized by the voice, then two taps and like that for each letter. I was lucky to get in and deactivate, as I have a long password. But this is incredibly infuriating. Good luck to anyone that encounters this bug: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11hACOIFikk

had this problem. tried all the 2 presses 3 presses options offered. but even if i got through all that. comouter said wrong password.
so i succeeded with the side tap option described above. tap your password letter, then tap the area beside the edit box twice. i was thus able to control what was input - a complicated password with double letters - and satisfy the voice assistants 3 tap requirement. thank you so much for that solution.
