Unable to delete duplicate contacts in S7

Hi there I was wondering if anyone knows how to delete duplicate contacts on an S7 please. I have gone to SETTINGS, APPLICATIONS, CONTACTS and then MERGE DUPLICATE CONTACTS but when I do this it says I have "no duplicates to merge" which I do. It has an option at the top left hand corner to select ALL (which I assume is what I am supposed to tick to be able to merge) however my phone keeps this ghosted and I am unable to select it. This is driving me nuts. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Your problem is most likely that you have the same contact attached to different accounts. For instance, if you have a contact attached to your GMail account, but have that same contact on your SIM card, I don't believe you will be able to merge those two together. Look at each of the duplicate contacts and see if you can determine where the contact is stored (SIM card, device, Google, etc). Some apps, like Facebook, can also create contacts on your device.
