Please help. Why am I not receiving texts from only one person?

So I am having trouble receiving texts from one of my contacts. I don't receive any for days and neither do they from I. Then all of a sudden, we can texts for a couple days and then the same problem occurs over and over again. I've had this phone for just a couple weeks. Before this, I had a Note 4 and had the same problem, though it seemed worse with that phone. But nonetheless, I still have this same issue. I am with Sprint and have been with them almost a year and a half. The person I'm having trouble with also has Sprint and always has. I believe they have a Samsung Galaxy S5 if it matters. I would love to resolve this issue finally because it's been ongoing forever and no one has been able to really help me. Please help me out. :/

It probably has something to with Sprint.

Used to work for a Dutch carrier and heard these kind of things before.

Don't believe it has something to do with your phone.
