Screen not working but only digitizer looks damaged, do I need to replace both?

I dropped my S7 and there is a crack just above the front facing camera and near the right top corner. Now the display and the digitizer aren't working. When I try to turn the screen on some times part of the screen will flash purple. The crack extends down a bit but doesn't look like the actual display is cracked. Could this be some sort of digitizer/connection issue? Or is my screen for sure gone and I need a full screen/digitizer replacement?
