Why does vr gear not work with Samsung galaxy 8+

I've got last year's vr gear but can't get my Samsung galaxy 8+ to go in it as doesn't fit. I've tried everything. Some people say yes and some no. Well I'd like to know how it can be done.

It fits if you follow the instructions that came with the Gear VR. The 2016 Gear VR includes two similar-looking adapters that slide onto the Gear VR's connector and then are secured with the lock switch. One of those connectors has a Micro-B USB connector, the other a USB Type C connector. You need to use the Type C.

My s8+ fits fine in my VR from last yr.

I have last year's and this year's vr. The s8 does not fit in last year's vr. The phone is 2 thick
