nah OP when the screens off, your phone wants to sleep.
all it takes is to pull phone out, tap home button, read time then put it back in pocket

Even my wedding ring is going to be a tattoo
I always use my phone as my timepiece and in my area, being stabbed is just a random risk one learns to live, or die, with.

As for the op, what you could do is set the lock screen wall paper as a solid black, put the clock on it and set your screen to never time out. Also, carry a few batteries...

No but you can get an app that will take you to the lock screen without turning the phone off

I doubt the cpu would be going full blast. I would go with as low as possible. It really doesn't have to do much... But the gpu would be working a bit
