Okay mate, will I have to download the unbranded firmware? Or can I root without losing my things? Or is the only way to root is to use a firmware?

If its suitable for your phone then yeah, itl put latest (its great) firmware on your phone. Wont root it though. Isnt there a simple rooting guide on here man.
Im realy the most stupid person u could ask lol, hopin someoene will jump in.
I rooted by flashing that Sydia kernal shotgun gave me in my 1st link.
Flash the new firmware and then the kernal coz flashing official firmware removes root...

Plug it in pc n press START on odin :beer:

Easiest way to root (and protect your s3 from the SoC hack) is with chain fires 'Exynos Abuse' app. Get it from xda

What does this root aswell? And funky will this root make me lose all my stuff?
  17. #42

    Default Re: Unbranded 4.1.2 firmware?

Short answer Yes... It uses the security hole to root so it can plug the hole...

Second short answer, no. It doesn't Flash anything new to your phone so will not wipe data. It uses a security hole to gain root then once it's in there gives itself permanent root permission.

This also makes unrooting easy too. Just click the unroot button in the app and it forgets its root privilege.

I feel your pain! I was new to rooting but got the hang of it real quick. Chainfire's root kit (XDA Developers) works for me. I'm running Android 4.1.2 and it's rooted. Sammobile is the best source for official firmware. I have it on my SD card just in case I want need it to flash via Odin Mobile. Kies can be a bit of a headache. I hate it! Samsung really need to do something about that piece of junk software! Good luck!
