Question Update Android OS on Rooted and de-Bloated Samsung SIII

    Hi,

I have a Samsung S3 running Android 4.1.2. I have rooted my phone ands removed all the Sasmung and O2 (British Carrier) Bloatware.

My question is simple - where should I go now for any update to the Android OS? Should I still go to Samsung, or should I go straight to Google and get the Vanilla update from there?

    Thanks.

    Hi

You can download the updated official stock S3 firmware ROM, when it's available at

There's already a leaked version of the update on the site. Make sure it's the correct version for your carrier as there are quite a few. I have the International version (rooted) as my phone isn't locked to any network. Hope that helps.

I forgot to add that you would have to flash this ROM to the phone once you have unzipped the file, using Odin. It's not like an update with Kies. It's a roundabout way. Otherwise you'll have to unroot the phone and update the usual way when the update becomes available. I, personally hate using Kies. Ho hum.

Thanks for your help. I followed your advice, and all went perfrectly. I upgraded the Firmware using the mobile version of Odin. I H.A.T.E Kies.

However, my Firmware has stayed at 4.1.2. Apparently, this is the latest update for Samsung S3 GT-I9300 UK on O2 available on SamMobile. I wanted at least a 4.2 version of Android. Is it advisable to upgrade to a standard vanilla version of Android straight from Google (Or wherever it is available) or will this very likely brick my phone?

    Thanks.
