Hey guys I just bought a friends S3 and recently found out it had already been rooted (It has SuperSU) the thing is I?m pretty scared about bricking it so I haven?t messed around with it much, I only downloaded a couple of apps off the google play store. I need some help with the basics (roms, emulators, how to update firmwares, etc) and is it possible to download everything straight to the phone or do I have to do everything by computer? I?m really lost. I want to take advantage of the phones capabilities as I?ve heard there are apps which help you boost the phones internet speed, among other things. Also I?m currently living in Bolivia and on the VIVA(nuevatel) network. Any help would be appreciated :D. Thanks

Here are the specs:
Model number - GT-I9300
Android version - 4.1.2
kernel version - 3.0.31 - 566833

Isn't the friend that sold you the phone available to teach you?

If you are new at this, and don't have a local resource to rely on if things go south, I'd recommend staying away from loading different ROMs or anything else that might mess up the phone. Just use it for what you need and then when you have the opportunity down the road you can experiment. But it's your funeral...

[root] Mobile ODIN Pro: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&token=1wJeKMJu is one way to handle flashing different ROMs without having to rely on a computer.

GooManager: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...details?id=com.s0up.goomanager&token=eQpCLeaM is useful for loading ROMs and GAPPS (for those ROMs that don't have the Google framework packaged in).

And of course there's tons of root-specific apps in the Google Play Store (or online) that allow you to make backups ( Helium: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup), block ads, etc.

Agreed.
It always makes me cringe when I hear of someone who isn't familiar with rooting, buying an already rooted device.
I wouldn't do anything without reading up first. The quickest way to brick your phone and render it useless is to flash a Rom that's not specifically made for your model S3.
As for apps, you can download whatever you want directly from the Play Store.
Good luck and don't hesitate to ask questions.
