taking this back to the store
I bought the galaxy tab 10.1 to see what it was like and so far I find it to be disappointed. For the price I was expecting much more. First of all the device is not capable of playing much video codecs such as high profile h264 720P. This is something my HTC EVO 3D does without a stutter but on the Tab all I got was a slide show. The device is a bit laggy at times and the honey comb interface isn't intuitive. I think my phone is a much better device than this product right now.

Re: taking this back to the store
Sorry to hear you're going to return the 10.1
I returned my 10.1 after owning it for 2 weeks (the return period at Fry's Electronics). However, after searching for a viable alternative I realized that the 10.1 is by far the best Android tablet on the market.
I returned to Fry's and repurchased the Tab. I cannot express how glad I am with my decision.
The second time around I really dove into the product, and unlike my first go around, really discovered how good a tablet the 10.1 really is.
Once the Touchwiz UI is released to the masses tomorrow the overall experience will be even better. - 08-04-2011, 09:20 AM

The fact that it cannot play these videos is enough for me. I am not sure why they went with Tegra 2 when it is so limited. My netbook and phone will do.

did you tried moboplayer or rockplayer? edit: plus, with the new UX coming tomorrow, i'm thinking the stock player should be improved.

Re: taking this back to the store
Tried rockplayer and diceplayer. Both gave slide shows. I already know the answer. The Tegra 2 chip does not support high profile 4.1 720P videos. Funny thing is my phone plays them fine. There is a lot of information about this limitation.

Re: taking this back to the store
@jamex: The title of your post is "taking this back to the store"
Based on that title many people viewed your post and others thought they would offer some suggestions you might consider before deciding to return the tablet.
However, you already seem determined to take the tablet back since none of the suggestions include storming the gates of Samsung HQ and demanding they replace the Tegra 2 chip with something you believe is more functional.
That being said; I'm hard pressed as to why you started the thread in the first place? Why not just take it back, and purchase a tablet that meets your specific needs, or as you stated earlier, keep what you have since "my netbook and phone will do"?
I don't understand getting this frustrated over a piece of technology that is not performing to your standards. Did you loose your receipt? - 08-04-2011, 01:05 PM #12

Re: taking this back to the store
Why not post a link to a sample video file that you cannot get to play on your Tab and let others see if it works on theirs. If it does, they might be able to help you get it to work on yours.

Re: taking this back to the store
I don't even know if what he is claiming about the Tegra 2 is correct, as I only use my Xoom for web browsing and occasional gaming. However, if it is in fact true, this is simply a matter of a consumer who didn't do his homework before purchasing. It's no big deal; it happens to everyone from time to time. If you have specific requirements for a device, you should verify that it satisfies those requirements.
A better direction for this thread (again, assuming that he is correct about the Tegra 2's limitations) would be suggesting a device that does meet his very particular needs. I'd offer something up, but I honestly don't get into video codecs much. I like watching movies on a big *** screen with surround sound. - 08-04-2011, 10:27 PM #16
