I know just after the TW update came out there were some people that liked the idea of the mini apps but were disappointed that it was not configurable. In time I assume it will be but you can sort of have a configurable mini app menu now...not only on the Tab but any Android device.
The version of Wave Launcher released a few weeks ago supports widgets. You can add any number of widgets to your wave, and when selected from the wave it opens the widget in an overlaid mode with an 'x' to close it. The Mini apps don't seem to be anything more than specialized widgets anyways.
I played with this a little on my dinc and my tab and it worked nicely. I did find a few widgets didn't seem to work well but most that I tried did.
