Default Has the original Galaxy tab 10.1 improved?

    Hi everyone,

I'm debating on getting the original Galaxy tab 10.1 refurbished from walmart for 250$. Lots of posts I read in 2011 said that the tab is laggy and there are not good apps developed for it.

Now after one year, with the OS upgrade and time to develop apps, do you guys think it's a good buy now?

I am mostly concerned with reading and annotating pdfs, and taking class notes (i.e. typing, I know the Tab sucks at handwriting). Is the performance smooth?

With the ICS update my 8.9 is very smooth. I never found it to be laggy, but it's noticeably smoother.

It's a great device (except for the issue with Netflix) but it all depends on what you're looking for. I'm actually waiting for Cyanogenmod 10 (JellyBean) to come out for this device. At that point, this would be one of the best devices available for $250!

What issues with Netflix? I'm on Task's ICS ROM and Netflix works just fine

My original Tab 10 was rather smooth after the ICS upgrade, but I traded it in towards a new Galaxy Note 10, which I am using right now.

It costs twice the $250, but the hardware alone is worth it in my opinion. The original Tab had Honeycomb installed, with the ICS upgrade coming just over a month or so ago to keep it somewhat up to date. The Tab 2 10 inch is basically the same device with the SD card slot and the modification that added the front speakers. The Note is quad core with 2GB of ram for apps. Add the digitizer into the mix and the Note becomes a viable device for your mentioned needs, especially the note taking requirement with excellent handwriting recognition, in my opinion.

One of the main issues I had with the original Tab was its inability to run a live wallpaper without the device becoming overly laggy. Once the live wallpaper was turned off, the device became somewhat responsive again. I tried to duplicate the lag of the Tab on the Note, but could not, even with a live wallpaper running.

I have had the Note since it launched, and can honestly say it is much better than the original Tab by a long shot.

Not sure what problem you are having with NetFlix , i have the Tab 10.1 and Netflix has always worked flawlessly. Since ICS it is really smooth, and is working great. I have both the Tab and the Note, the build quality feels alot better on the Tab.
