Remote image cache

Every time I go into the Gallery, there is a folder called "remote-image-cache", which seems to contain mainly avatars from several forums that I belong to. Obviously I have no use for these images, and they just take up precious space on my drive. Each day I have to go in and delete them all, usually there are around 50 of them. Is there any way that I can disable this function, so that the images are not captured in the first place?
