Re: Tab or Nexus?
i bought the tab2 7 about a month ago. i had done pretty good at the local casino and decided i wanted a tablet (strange as i never cared to have one before lol) i asked a friend of mine who is (to me) my go to guy for tech stuff. he said he would wait on the nexus 7. i started reading about it and decided i wanted the sd card slot.
i told him that and he steered me towards the the tab 2 7, i did a lot of reading and decided it would be a good "first tablet". went to best buy and picked one up
i have loved it since day one! after about a week i got the update to 4.0.4 and that seemed to make it even nicer.
i am not someone who gets into rooting stuff or clocking speed.. what i wanted was something to play on when i didnt want to pull out my laptop, and wanted a little bigger screen to play on than my phone (razr maxx).
for me the tab 2 is all i need, i can put the ext card in my laptop and transfer music or whatever over easily, and the screen is more than acceptable when it comes to looking at pics i keep stored or watching videos.
the ONLY drawback to the tab2 7 is the damn plug in is propriatery so i cant just go buy an extra cord which makes me mad cause i always try to keep an extra cord around just in case!!
if your like me and just play on the tablet, either one will prob do well, but i have no reason to want to trade off my samsung tab2 7..
just my opinion

I seen in the Walmart ad that they have the tab for $249 and you get a $50 gift card. Is this enough of a reason to pick it over the nexus 7? I'd rather have the nexus but just can't bring myself to take a chance on something that has so many issues/defects out of the box. Don't feel like playing the return/exchange game to try and get a good one. Is it true that the tab is getting jelly bean the second week of August? I know the nexus has a better screen and processor, but I think I could give those things up for better build quality.

Re: Tab or Nexus?
Youll be better off opting for the Tab2. I tried the Nexus a handful of times and got crap each time. Gave up and got the Tab2 for my wife. Runs awesome for what it is. I dont know if you have a Micro Center where you live. But they advertised the Tab2 7.0 for $199 brand new. Eithey way, I dont regret the purchase one bit after what I went through with that dam Nexus. I saw the rumor about JB too, hope its true!

Well I went to pick up a tab today and they didn't have any in stock, guess I'll have to order one online.

Re: Tab or Nexus?
I ordered the N7 from bestbuy, it was dropped off 2 days later, rushed home after work. I felt like a fat kid who is about to get cake, but as soon as I took it out of the box I right away noticed that the whole left side of the screen was loose, took it back the next morning, all told had it for less than 12 hours. So I think I'm going to best buy tomorrow to pick up the tab2.

Re: Tab or Nexus?
Well, I can tell you the Peel app (Infrared remote) sucks. It sucks more if you're rooted, because it won't work. I can't find any app that works with the infrared to make that feature worthwhile.
The MicroSD card slot might be important to you, but the 16GB capacity of the Nexus could fit a couple of films, some music, photos, apps, and have room for documents to spare.
TouchWIZ hogs RAM profusely. Thus, I rooted after one week. I went to a ROM with many bugs, but that wasn't anywhere near as annoying as Samsung's ROM.
It has a proprietary charging and data transfer cable, in a design that I constantly fear will break the receptacle off of the motherboard.
If I were getting an Android tablet today, I'd get a Nexus 7.
- Stock ROM is vanilla.
- Gets great custom ROMs because it's a reference device.
- Gets the latest updates first. Samsung? Idk, 2 months from now?
- Quad-core.
- Micro USB.
- NFC 'NufF Conversed(said).

They both seem to have their advantages and disadvantages.

No expandable storage. Absolute dealbreaker.

Re: Tab or Nexus?
I am having this exact dilemma here in the UK.....
Leaning towards the Tab as love the white finish and feel of it, the back of the N7 is a little toy like to me, rear camera is good as i use ebay to sell stuff quite alot so would need this, memory card is always a plus to fill the thing with entertainment.
I do like that the N7 has JB and is vanilla......but im hoping that the Tab2 will soon receive JB...im patient and can wait.
