Tab or Nexus?

With Nexus 7 out, would you still buy the Tab 2 7.0? I'm in the market and leaning towards Nexus, but I'm (sadly) kinda loyal to Samsung. What would you suggest, as a user of the Tab 2?

I don't think the Nexus 7 has an SD slot, which might be a big deal. Otherwise, the hardware definately seems more powerful than the Tab 2 7 or 10.

If I buy the 16 GB I should be good. I'm leaning towards Nexus all of a sudden..

They are very close. Non expandable memory is a concern with the Nexus, and but unless you really need a rear facing camera and IR blaster, then the Nexus probably gets the nod.

Indeed. Do you think the Nexus will be rooted or something to get the usual tablet layout?

I'm looking at the same question. It really looks like the Tab 2 7.0 is the right direction for me, in part because I have a digital camera that uses SD cards, and doesn't have wifi transfer or email. So the only way for me to get the photos from the camera into my PhotoBucket is a physical card swap.

Apart from "It's New" is there a compelling reason to go with the Nexus? Anything that can overcome the removable memory issue?

Hmm you make a good point. I'm not big with photos on a tablet, so that doesn't effect me. As for you, I'm not sure how you could do the photo transfers. Maybe the Tab is right for you.

Well they do make sd cards with built in wifi (eye-fi for example) which would negate the need for swapping the sd card to the tablet altogether.

I was going to get the Nex7 too but then a week ago I walked in to the shop and got me the SGT2_7 and all I can tell is that I'm not sorry. It is a very good tab. It was a bit sluggish b4 I rooted, installed TiBu froze all the apps I don't use and it is fast n smooth since, actually I am surprised that there is this much difference on stock factory ROM in speed and smoothness just by freezing all the apps I don't use or ever will.

I won't be getting the Nexus 7,but only because I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. I got that when it came out and have never even considered returning it. I use the Galaxy 2 every day while on the road. The GPS chip set means I have a fully functional GPS unit with a 7 inch screen, I use Navfree USA as the navigation app, I have Docs to go for office work, EZ PDF Reader for marking up pdf files, add in Drop Box and Ever note and I can function as the road warrior I am. By the way my Android phone acts as a mobile hot spot so I can get anything I might need from the office. The only difference between the Galaxy 2 and the Nexus 7 would seem to be the lack of a sd/micro sd card in the Nexus. The 7 inch form factor means that the device fits on the dash without obstructing the view, so it functions as an almost perfect mobile device. My advice for anyone considering purchasing a tablet is to take a moment and figure out what you want to use it for. 10 inch for multimedia files like movies, and the 7 inch for use on the road in the car. Just my thoughts on the subject.

I returned my Tab2 and ordered the Nexus.

I still may regret the decision - time will tell.

Things I really liked about the Tab 2 - 720p video recording, speakers were great for a Tablet, Expansion Slot. Overall good performance, Netflix App never worked right - it played fine, but I could never get the App to scroll properly through the choices. Samsung build quality is superb.

Minuses - screen was a little "washy" and colors not crisp. Could not play intense games like Riptide GP without freezing up. SLICK! The back was slicker than snail snot making it very easy to drop.

If someone must have the card slot and/or camera - buy the Tab2 for sure.

The fact that the Nexus doesn't have a rear camera or SD slot doesn't sit well with me.

However the Nexus does that quad-core running under the hood. Although it seems like that's ALL it got going for it.

All of a sudden, I'm torn.

Assuming the best about the Nexus 7, they are both good choices. I need the storage (SD Card slot) and see no reason why my screen needs to be any better. Its very nice on my SGT27.

I have a Nexus7 ordered. I know its too soon to say much but there are a ton of quality issues popping up. All of it has me wondering if I can spend $250 better on a better tablet even if it doesnt have the quad core of the Nexus! Guess im kinda glad my pre-order hasnt shown up and I can still send it back to Google.

Netflix app is terrible but I don't think it's Samsung's fault. That app is just terrible. Way too busy, too much going on.

I'm sure the Nexus 7 is a good choice as well, but I really like my Tab 2.

I know how that feels... Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has SD slot for
plenty of storage... the Nexus 7 has no SD slot...

I have spent many sleepless night trying to decide if my next
car should be a Ferrari or a Bentley. Both are fast cars. The
Ferrari has almost no room for luggage. The Bentley has
plenty of room in the trunk, plus it has two small rear seats.
I have considered asking the opinions of strangers on the city bus,
which I take to/from work. However, I think they'll say the bus has
the most room.

My question is, what are the differences between the tab2 7.0 and the 7.0 plus? Other then ICS? I currently have a tab 7.0+ but have a friend that wants to swap me the 64gb transformer prime for my RAZR maxx.(getting the s3 on Tuesday). I'm just curious as I'm fairly new to the tablet scene. I also have a vzw gnex.

Nexus 7 hands down.
I purchased my Gtab2 about a month ago and the stock rom is terrible. The lag is noticeable in almost all activities. After putting CM on it I do rather enjoy the performance. I makes an excellent e-reader. I The only reason to buy the Gtab2 is if you absolutely have to have the Sd-card, but most users likely will not miss it. One of my main hopes for the Gtab2 was to turn it into a fancy remote for my home theater, but the software is just not there. Kind of rambling post sorry.

I am extremely anal when it comes to lag on tablets. This is how I discovered that NOT
all Tab 2 7.0 tablets were created equal. I have bought/returned/exchanged 6 of them
in total. 2 out of 6 had absolutely no lag at all.(one of which is on my desk right now)
3 had some lag and 1 had a lot of lag. All were tested straight out of the box.

At least it wan't as bad as the LCD screen issue that I had when I bought the iPad 2
last year. It took 4 trips to the Apple Store before finally finding one with no light
bleeding on the LCD. (the Apple Genius was nice enough to allow me to open up
5 iPad 2 3G/64GB) Even the one I finally settled on was not 100% light bleed free,
but good enough so that I don't notice it much.

I decided to go with the Tab because I realized I only wanted the Nexus 7 for Jelly Bean. The Tab has a back camera that does 720p video, and that sold me. Well, that, and the wait for the Nexus 7. I haven't been able to put it down since I got it, and use my laptop a lot less. Nothing like my Nook Color where I never used it and sold it to a friend. I don't see much lag at all.

With what I went through, Id say a person wanting a Nexus 7 has about a 60/40 change of getting a device that halfway put together right. Tab2 is alot more solid than the Nexus's I got ahold of. That and I didnt have to make a sacrifice and accept a unit that was subpar just because I didnt want to hassle with sending it back or be embarrassed to admit on the internet that my Nexus was a turd.

I was wanting to pick up a Nexus 7 but the 60/40 chance of getting a good one isn't good enough odds for me to pull the trigger. I think I will hold out and see what comes out around the holidays.
