Will not charge when powered on.

I'm having an charging issue with my Tab 2.
I always would be using my tablet and charge at the same time.
Now I only get red X on my battery symbol.
If I power off the tablet, it will charge.
It just won't charge with the power on or using tablet.
I'm using the factory Samsung charger.
Charger is goo, because it does charge when tablet is powered off.
Please help.

The red X indicates that the device thinks it is attached to a computer USB port, and so is only drawing about 0.5 amps at most, which is not enough power to charge the battery when using the device.

If you are using a different cable than the one that came with your charger, then that may be the culprit.

Actually, even if it is the stock cable, it is more likely to be the problem than the charger itself or the tablet.

If the cable is a 'charge only' type, then it won't have data lines running through it, and that is your problem. If the cable is supposed to be able to convey data, then it may have a broken wire in it.

Yes it is the stock factory cable and charger.
For the last year and a half it has always charged while I was using the tablet.
It has only been the last 3 days it will not charge while using it.
I have been powering it down and charging at night.

I'll go check if it does anything different when connected to the desktop.

Sold my 2 3g so cant confirm but the red X mean its plugged in the computer

The wires that are in the cable are probably splitting apart from years of bending. Thus causing your problem. Happens a lot.

OK, I just bought some brand new, genuine Samsung cords.
When they get here, I'll give them a try and let you guys know what happens.

New cables came in today.
Plugged the tablet in ( while on ) and it is charging.
All is working good.
