How to access some app settings?

I have a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 8.0. Generally, I like it a lot, but I seem to have no access to a setting menu on some apps (Notebooks and Sudoku for two of them). The restore feature for the Notebooks was reached this way! My previous tablet was a Nexus 7 and the menu appeared in the form of an icon of 3 vertical dots. There is nothing like this on my new tablet. Any suggestions?
