Cool Cannot read Outlook 2010 and Word documents in Dropbox on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3

I have a Toshiba Notebook running W7 and have copied Outlook & Word documents to my Dropbox.
However I can't read them on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.
Somewhat strangely I can read Adobe Reader documents copied there.
    Can anyone assist.

PS: Of the documents in question all open in the Toshiba Dropbox and those with the suffix .pdf, .url, .htm, .mht &.docx open in the Tab 3 Dropbox but those there with the suffix .msg demand an unnamed app to open them.

.msg is a reserved format I think.

Also are you opening them from Dropbox or from Polaris using the Dropbox API component?

    Hi Relgoshan,

Thank you for promptly replying to my thread.

I have a number of travel documents I have saved in My Documents to my Toshiba Notebook.
I subsequently decided to copy them into the Dropbox to that computer.
I knew it would automatically synchronise with the Dropbox to my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.
I would then, I reasoned, have access to them while travelling overseas.
I can read all the documents saved to my Toshiba Notebook either under My Documents or under its Dropbox.
I can however only read some of those documents in the Dropbox to the Samsung Tab 3.
For those with a .msg and .mht suffixes it asks me to 'Please download an app that can open this file'
For those with a .htm suffix it opens with either Chrome, DB Rext Editor, HTMLViewer or Internet
For those with a ..url it opens with either Internet or Chrome
For those with a .docx suffix it opens via Polaris Office
For those with a .pdf suffix it opens via either Polaris Office or Readers Hub

Clearly there are programs on the Toshiba Notebook that are lacking on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.

So, is there an answer to my problem.

    Regards

. msg, is an Outlook email format and you won't be able to open it without Outlook.

Try to forward the email to your Google email and open it from there.

.mhl is a type of HTML file. Perhaps you can find a viewer by searching Google Play.

You need to remember that you can't save files with application specific extensions and expect to open them without that application..

They open on your computer because you have the software installed that opens them.

When sharing with a Mobile device, whether Apple or Android, you need to make sure you have an app that can open the file.

Convert mhl, html to a PDF if possible then send it to your Mobile device

When I travel I use an application on my PC called, Cute pdf.
It prints anything that can be printed to a PDF file on the Pc, I then transfer it via Dropbox to my tablet

    I print to Cutepdf:
    webpages
    Confirmation and information Emails
    Text messages
Anything I want to take on my tablet/phone

So. Your Toshiba is running a full version of Windows? And you are surprised that some of the files behave differently on Android.

Short answer to get the same experience you'll need a Surface 2 Pro ($1000) plus another copy of Office ($400) or so.

To get a SIMILAR experience you first need to add Adobe PDF reader.
Use the Email client via IMAP to sync with your mail.
Try opening the .MHT files from the system file view in Opera Classic, it uses a version of that binary format (web archive)
A good program for converting to PDF is always a good idea...

    Hi kgragert,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
In the interim my wife and I have been somewhat on the same thought lines.
For emailing I use Outlook on my Toshiba W7 Notebook while she uses Gmail on her Toshiba Vista Notebook..
I should point out that the Tab 3 is actually in my wife's name which helps.
When she receives emails they appear on Gmail in both the computer and the Tab 3.
Once opened in the Tab 3 they need to be dealt with there separately.
This is no matter what may have subsequently done with them on the computer.
Her thought was that Gmail and the Tab 3 are Android which is Google.
She suggested I email her from Outlook attaching the documents in question.
These she would immediately place in an appropriately named folder ie 2014 Travel Docs.
They should then be able to be viewed in full on the Tab 3.
This turned out to be correct.
However as you are no doubt aware the Tab 3 is not cellular.
So I will have to have access to free wireless to view them.
If able to find and download an appropriate app on the Tab 3 I can view them in DropBox.
That being the case I will not nee access to free wireless and could have access them anywhere, anytime.
I will have a look at CutePDF.
    Thanks once again.

    Hi Relgoshan,

Thank you for your further reply.
I have also had a reply from kgragert and have forwarded him the latest developments.
In case you don't have access to all comments I have included my reply to him below.
Incidentally is Adobe Reader which I have on my Toshiba W7 Notebook & Adobe PDF Reader one and the same.
    Thank you for your help.

Adobe Reader Android is very similar to the Windows version and naturally has the most complete PDF reading features. Other options on a tablet include such as Perfect Viewer (with PDF plugin).

I do suggest using the Email app and not the Gmail app, both are preloaded. On your current Toshiba I expect you may be using POP3 mail and not IMAP with your Outlook program. IMAP access configuration synchronizes the Drafts and Sent folders and such. Overall mail access will be spotty in either app if you lack wireless.

You can add another user in the Settings of the Tab 3, with its own mail settings and such if needed.
