How can I restrict app updates and e-mail notifications?

Help!! need to restrict app updates and e-mail notification

v'e just brought a new galaxy tab s and im getting constant updates from apps how can i limit this to once every few hours or only when im connected to wi/fi i basically want to save data i get 500mb a month and with the updates all the time thats gonna be out the window very quickly also the same with my gmail notifications and e-mails i get through any help will be much appreciated, also my flip board on my desktop seems to show stories from a page i havent subscribed to how can i change this to a subscribed page it always shows up technology and science even when i remove it from my subscriptions. + this is my first post so if its in the wrong place let me know cheers guys n gals

In Play Store settings, you can set it to not automatically update.
