Still no 1440p option in YouTube?

Been having this tablet for over a month now. YouTube (version 5.17.6) gives at best 1080p quality. Tried some of the tricks from older posts to fix it, but couldn't get it to work. So has any of you tab s 10.5 owners managed to get 1440p quality in YouTube - and how did you do it? Thanks.

I read somewhere that Samsung didn't get the certification for their 2K displays, Note 4 and this beauty included :( But I've also read some other tricks that involve rooting and modifying something in the code (and using older YouTube versions, I believe) so that's where I stopped bothering.

I came to the realization that I don't think my eyes would tell the difference on the tablet, so 1080p is fine. I actually watch youtube more on my TV.

Too bad, nice though that I'm not alone with this problem. It took roughly 7 months for 1080p quality to work in my Nexus 5 YouTube so I'm not giving up all hope for this to start working... :)

Follow the instructions on this link and it should work.

Forget about the Root part (Steps 2 & 3), I did it skipping all the root related stuff, and it has worked on ALL the devices that I've been trying for the past month and hadn't worked. I fixed it on my S5, my Tab S 10.5", and my friend's Note 4 and LG G3. All of them now have the 1440p option except the S5 that it gets up to 1080p.

The only one so far that didn't work was a Sony Xperia Z3, but I just sold it today anyway.

So basically sideloading a different version of the YouTube app? Interesting... but don't know if I want to risk an unknown APK for that.

Well, not an unknown version as they are the versions that are leaked on apkmirror.com, but yes, the last one hasn't been officially released yet.

As long as the word 'leaked' is there, I'm gonna be paranoid. Haha. These apps have access to your Google credentials. Not sure I want to trust an APK for that.
