Buying Used Tab, need advice

Sold my ipod touch and been looking for a deal on a Tab, found one locally for $250 but its a T-mobile.

Can I use this only on wifi or do i need to activate? Will I get the updates if connected only through wifi? Will I be able to bypass the activation screen?

I am currently on Verizon but wouldnt mind doing a prepay/month to month data plan if it needs to be activated as long as there is no contract.

Any advice would help.

Yes you can use as wifi only. Im using a sprint tab wifi only. You should be able to bypass activation. I did with mine and now it never asks for me to activate it.
