    Default broken charging port

A few minutes ago I went to put my watch on the charger and noticed that it wasn't charging, unplug the cradle and plugged it in again and nothing happened. I unplugged it and checked out the back of the watch and the 4th and 5th prongs are damaged. Has this happened to anybody else?

Oops, didn't notice it's your watch and not the charger. Sorry!

Yes this happened to me! Repair centre claims physical damage and not covered under warranty! I called Samsung and they said because repair centre says its physical damage, its not covered! Clearly its a manufacturing defect. The charging pins touch only your wrist and the charger!

Yea this happened to me also with my gear 2 and Samsung told me the exact same thing,so now I own a very expensive dumb watch.

I just checked mine after about 3 months, and everything is OK... Any idea what caused the damage?

I was showing my watch to some friends and one suggested that because the contacts are pressed against the skin, the oils & acids from perspiration might cause the contacts to corrode over time.. That in turn could cause them to fall out.

Does it look like corrosion took place?

    Same thing here...

In my case, initially, the copper connections were covered with dirt preventing my GL from charging - - cleaned them and it worked fine...

Since then, I make note to look every now and then to keep them clean.

Today - I noticed the fifth connection was missing - - but the phone still charges, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Yea... crappy construction - but Samsung has a history of dodging repairs on these things.

In my case, if it ever quits, I probably won't bother calling, because I already scratched them cleaning them, and Samsung will most likely tell me I broke it myself.

I like my Gear Live - but the crappy battery life, along with the expensive coupler - and inability to just plug usb directly into the watch - will keep me from recommending it to anyone.

I've experienced issues with broken charger and after a very lengthy, patience trying conversation had the charger replaced under warranty. It was not offered, and the agent repeatedly tried to close support session, before I pointed out three times that the watch and charger we're still under warranty. I knew the issue was with the charger and not the watch but they still made me send everything back. It turned around within a week but it felt like it only happened because I was persistant, not because they were standing behind the product. Definitely a design flaw.

YES! I received the dreaded response due to my watch band buckle being worn. Samsung is dodging the real issue, their design. Due to this, I have sworn off all future Samsung products. Their customer service is less than desired.

I have just had this issue, and it looks like I am going to be given the same rubbiush as the rest of you guys have faced. I have owned my Gear 2 and Note 3 since August last year (It was booked in to be looked at under warranty 13th of May 2015) and the same issue. Gear 2 wouldn't charge. I noticed the charging surfaces were starting to corrode a couple of weeks prior to it not charging at all. I have been told today (03 of June 2015) that it has physical damage and I will have to pay $212 to fix the charging pins...... Might as well just buy a new watch all together as it is only a little over $100 more.... The repairer has escalated it to Samsung, and judging by the previous comments on this page, I am going to be in the same position. Question..... How do you stop the corrosion when you have to perspire and also the fact that it is supposed to be "Waterproof", you would think that this wouldn't be a problem. Samsung is the reason I went away from Apple, but it appears they are both as bad as each other, one way or another..... :-/ Another question, why would anyone want to try and remove these surfaces intentionally? Stupidity on Samsungs behalf.....

If I were you, I would take it back to where you bought it from before the charging surfaces disappear all together. This is a problem that surely has to be addressed by Samsung as they are apparently oblivious to this issue.

Ok, so I had some success with mine today. After talking to the selected repair center, they informed me today that my Gear 2 would be repaired "as an act of good faith" by Samsung. It will be repaired and sent back to me in the coming days/week. From this point onward though, I will be taking photos of the charging surfaces as the problem develops. Samsung really needs to wake up.

Was this QSL repair centre? I took mine back to **** Smith 10 weeks ago, 3 days within warranty, and got a response today the same. Physical damage, not covered, want me to pay $178. They have told me to contact QSL myself.

I just got this problem too, charging pins corroded and one of them fell off, my watch is still under warranty, so I need advice so I don't end up with the "Physical Damage" response, its clearly a manufacturing defect, because a lot of people are getting the same problem, any input will be appreciated, thanks.

Well this is all very interesting, I was contemplating one of these smart watches from Samsung, it's very similar to the washing machine debacle. If you wear it all of a sudden your warranty is not valid.

It would seem that there should be a rubber plug that covers these during use. Alternatively move the pins to a better location by design.

I believe watches that are out there should have their pins cleaned with contact cleaner and as a preventative measure keep duct tape over the enclosure to keep the corrosive sweat and such like away from the critical area. A smear with silicon grease would also keep sweat away but keep an eye on performance whist charging.

This is a major design issue and beware of buying secondhand as the potential damage and degradation is unknown.

Meanwhile I would only consider a Samsung once the design fault is addressed and unless you have money to throw away, don't buy products with this charging arrangement as you will not be treated fairly.

I hope someone from Samsung follows technical issues raised regarding their products.

I would also suggest everyone complains to Samsung directly not the repair agent as they are always taking their directions from Samsung.

This watch is piece of ****! Locked on Samsung phones, without any support (software or hardware), burned-in screen, and at the end - today one of the pins just fallen away. I also own Note 4 and Note 10" 1st gen tablet and I can say Samsung is a **** company. Never again!

I'm sorry to hear you have such negative experiences. I am very pleased with my Note 4, Note Pro 12.2, and Gear 2 Neo. All work flawlessly. I can't imagine replacing any of them with something else.
