I have noticed that when my phone is upstairs charging and I'm downstairs in the kitchen I can still receive notifications on my watch. There is no way Bluetooth has that reach.

I can go >75ft, through one wall, with my Gear 2 Neo. I believe the BT can have the reach you're referring to. Turn off the WiFi (source) to check, and I'm interested in your findings!

I've been at least 100ft away from mine and I still receive notification. Bluetooth 4.0 is pretty powerful.

The teardown by iFixit found a Broadcom chipset that contains WiFi. The antenna is labeled BT and WiFi also.

It's not turned on, but it's in there and could potentially be turned on with a rom...

Looks like the Gear Live will get to use its WiFi in the 5.1 Android Wear update!
