Default Does 2.1 Help With Battery Life?

    Hi All,

I am seriously on the fence about moving from my Blackberry 8330 to the android OS. I was going to get the Hero but I would rather prefer a phone with a physical keyboard and a camera with a flash. Plus the AMOLED and the faster processer is nice.

Okay, so my question is, does the 2.1 update help with the Moment's dismal battery life? I am aware that I will have to charge it every day, and thats fine. At work, I get really, REALLY spotty coverage and my BB is always going between roaming and non-roaming and 1X to 3G. I am sure this will kill my battery.

I use Google Talk and texting while at work, that's it. I also use the occasional data and phone calls during the day.

What am I looking like with this phone? Will I suffer? Is it worth it? I don't want the EVO, well, I do, but I don't at the same time. Lol.

You should be fine. It was actually the CL14 update that really made the Moment's battery life better, 2.1 improves it just a tad more but it really is pretty decent now.

I am a heavy user, but can "usually" get through a full day. It is hard to predict what all of that roaming and 1x <-> EV switching might do, but if you're at work... couldn't you keep it plugged in to a PC/MAC or the charger part of the day? If you did that, no worries at all!

    Enjoy Android

I am rather new to the Moment so I can't compare. All I could say is I can't go a full day on 1 charge. If I am in the office then I could go a full day because I use the pc while in the office and only take a few calls on my phone. But if I am out all day my phone will die by about 4-5pm.

One more GREAT thing about 2.1, Pandora was essentially broken on the Moment with 1.5 but is now running beautifully with no issues on 2.1.

    Loving it...

Maybe it's because I'm running a custom ROM with most of the bloatware removed, but I have noticed a pretty significant improvement in battery life since upgrading to 2.1

My battery is much worse since the upgrade to 2.1. With 1.5, I could get an ENTIRE day and now I'm getting only about 8 hours.

My battery is about the same, but the camcorder is borked with the 2.1 update, at least on mine. The resolution is crap on High and just okay on Low, but videos shot in Low resolution create larger files than the exact same video shot in High...go figure.

I'm disappointed with HTC as a company. They seem to care more about selling more phones than taking care of problems with existing phones. I'd look at some other Android platform.

My battery life seems to be better. The standby battery life seems to be increased.

I had 100% charge on my battery lastnight when I went to bed. After 10 hours of sleep and my phone OFF the charger all night, I still have 100%. Im running a custom kernel with an enhanced battery code, so Im getting 2-3 days out of a single charge.

I too loved the keyboard on Black berry, for 11 months I used the PRE, smaller keyboard but usable. Last week I bought a htc hero, yes I was all OOOOO about Evo until I saw extra charges, learned I didn't live in 4G area and found out 4G drains battery like never turning off your screen. I must say using the on screen keyboard is not as bad as I expected, yes I am still in the learning curve. I had my Hero exactly one week when Eclair came out so I'm not sure about battery life, I have always used my phones hard and carried extra batteries. I bought an extended life battery with back on Ebay for $22 and it is great. So in my 10 days here in Android land I can tell you this....come on in the water is fine. Apps are fantastic

Phil. Im still up in the air about which phone to get. I want to moment for the screen and faster processer but I like the hero because of the Sense UI. I have read that the Hero is underpowered and is laggy. Can you confirm in your experience?

Well, my wife and I have both have had a Moment for a little more than a month and didn't use them at all when we were out of the country, so I would say four weeks total. Both of us are very light users and I can tell you that both of us could go two days before on a charge but now we have to charge somewhere in the middle of the day or we would run out by dinner. And, other than the programs that came with the upgrade along with two google programs I downloaded, goggles & gestures, the programs are the same. I still love the phone, but the battery life is ridiculous.

yes i really like the moment, even more after 2.1..... even iphone users at work love my phone. the hero had a better battery life but that damm trackball sucked for me. if the hero had a trackpad i might of kept it. but i had real bad luck with the hero.

but thats just what i think about it.

I have to keep killing tasks all the time since I upgraded to 2.1. For some reason, it keeps opening up apps that I did not open up myself. I set it to automatically kill tasks every 30 minutes which helps, but I still have to keep it charged and bring a back up charger when I am somewhere I can't plug it in.
