Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
Ah its cool.. i was a little worried because i didnt understand what i was doing wrong.. But i will just explain in here for any future noobz like me who might make this simple mistake.
In the directions that you have on the first page i followed to a T.. But my mistake was.. I copied the full zip as is with ODIN included.. I ended up looking at the leaf ROM just for a comparison.. To see if i could zip it and install and then it hit me.. I was suppose to take the other Phoeni zip file Inside.. after opening it. I just deleted the full zip and replaced it.. And bingo.. No problems and it breezed through after that.. And now im back on linux.. - 03-03-2012, 10:27 PM

Yup, just turning 20 in a few days
I don't need donations or anything, I'm just a kid with no bills aside from web hosting. I may start selling apps though for small spending money, finding a job isn't going well :P It's awesome enough to me that people appreciate the work and possibly get my name spread around

Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
Hey man.. 20 is cool.. i remember those days -__- and Im sure with your talents your name will get out there.. I don't know any people personally with my phone but when you come out with some apps im sure i could spread the word around.. I guess ill fully read up before trying that custom kernel.. and i guess i have to add all the stuff i backed up.

Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
The only people I know with my phone are family with no interest in hacking, it gets hard to find testers. Lol
I'm not worried about money or getting my name out there, I do it for fun and because I want better life/performance out of a device I actually own. I'd love to get my hands on other android devices to get learning more about it. It helps to have a widely used and hacked phone when just starting out - 03-03-2012, 11:03 PM #332
Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
The custom kernel should be as easy to install as running firehak's update.zip from the sdcard. I used his update file s an example. It only takes about 5 seconds to install and then a reboot and you are good to go. And as always, back up before you change your phone. Of course you can save yourself the time and wait for phoenix 0.3 which is due out soon. That will also get you the modified kernel.

Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
I think i will wait then.. That gives me time to see what i can learn in the mean time.. Right now I guess i am just interested in things like the wifi tether.. Is there like a best apps section for replenish users?? As of now I still don't know where i should be going for apps or what my phone can and cant do.. Just found out street fighter II wont work on here lol.. What are some of you guys fav apps and where can i get them??

Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
It's not a particularly powerful device. Small armv6 600mhz processor I believe, so you won't have much luck with any games that are 3d or large/complex 2d games. It's hard to play many with such a small screen anyway. It may not be the most powerful phone, but it still gets things done. I pretty much just use it as a phone and hated the poor battery life and sluggish performance enough to quit being a lazy developer and learn :P
After 0.3 I want to look into compiling android from source rather than using samsungs build and try customizing more now that performance and battery are going well. After a using it for the majority of the day on browser/wifi, texting, playing with apps for testing stability on the new release, I've only lost 50% battery. We may get around 2 full days off the plug with average to moderate usage now thanks to Dmrlook. - 03-03-2012, 11:37 PM #335

Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
I appreciate more and more interest being shown for this phone! I am well aware of boot animations, I'm working on that problem. When I enable them, they do not go away without killing the system process, meaning you never see the home screen, though ddms shows everything actually being started and running fine.
As for deodexing, the first time I ran a deodexing the phone and mms apps went crazy with fc's until you wiped data, then started up again if you rebooted. Did you do anything different?
Recovery was done by Shabby, as I don't currently know how to build it. Thanks for the resize, I'll be sure to take a look at it possibly put it in the official 0.3 release.
And as for wiping data on install, it has to. The way I made it was that it would format the file system to ext4 to get rid of Samsung's "rfs" system.
I hope I didn't miss any points you made? Again, glad to see more interest in such a non-popular phone. I was actually about to post the rom over at xda once I released 0.3.
EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot the update part. The update prompt is still going to show up for some people now that Boost has been added. It checks the build.prop for the latest version, so it will obviously look for a specific string. I plan to release Sprint and Boost versions out of caution and the update annoyances.
PS: Your link says "0.3" in the file name, but it's only at 0.2 so far

Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
Thanks for the quick reply, Firehak. Yeah, you are right about the filesystem converting over to ext4. I totally overlooked that when I mentioned the wipe. I am working on the issue now about the system update issue. Do you think if we change the build.prop to say its the FA19 it will quit? Just a thought.... I was thinking about changing the fingerprint on the build.prop anyway for the full Market app experience.
I didn't want to change the actual version of the ROM until other people have tried it and reported back with little or no issues at all. If I can fix the system update problem, then I will correctly rename it to .03.
EDIT: Once I fix the issue and change version to .03 should I just start a new thread? Or continue to post here? - 03-04-2012, 05:03 PM

Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
Changing all EK18 references to FA19 on will stop Sprint's nagging update message. EK03 is the latest for boost I believe. I already stopped it in the test build of 0.3 I'm running. I'm almost done with changes, and then I'll need a Boost user to test it, then 0.3 will be out.
Something that just popped into my head, by the way. I don't mind mods to the rom, it is pretty basic after all. I just ask that you continue to credit myself, Shabbypenguin, and Drmlook for our work.
If you're going to make simple edits, probably just post here with the notice that it is a simple change from PhoeniX. If you plan to change a lot and continue supporting it, it would be best to start a new thread and credit our work as your rom base.Last edited by firehak; 03-04-2012 at 05:18 PM.

Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
Alright, i don't mean to sound like a noob. But i've got a samsung replenish, and I recently installed a Mod that would give it a black navigation bar instead of white using Metamorph. Upon restart however, it kept crashing after the samsung logo. So i did a factory restore.
it didn't work, so i then looked all over the internet (almost nothing online except leafrom and pheonix). So i used pheonix rom 0.2 via the whole Odin thing. However, I can't get my phone to boot anything anymore.
Upon plugging it into the computer, it just charges the batter (battery animation). So when i Use odin to flash (via "Download mode") i can get as far as installing the rom using the "install from .zip" option in recovery. However, after that and restarting, it still just goes from rebooting, and then the battery charge screen. So it can't reboot...what do i do? - 03-05-2012, 01:58 PM #349
Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
First, you need to be deodexed before you modify the system framework. I am sure that is why your phone won't boot. The mod you installed was installed in the /system folder. When you do a factory reset, it only wipes /data. Therefore, the mod you installed is still there, and thus won't boot. Look around the thread for EK18 Stock Odin Images, and reflash.
Hope this helps. - 03-06-2012, 02:07 AM

Re: [ACS][ROM] PhoeniX ROM 0.2
I get where nchanted_1 could be confused about the theme, but he isn't still applying a theme anymore. GB comes black standard, Neofox_04 is just installing the rom which does replace /system.
It sounds to me like you're turning the phone off instead of using the reboot options. When the phone powers down and is plugged into usb/an outlet, it automatically boots into battery charging mode. After you install the zip file in CWM, either use reboot from the menu (which sometimes reboots back into CWM recovery mode..), or unplug the usb cable before powering off. That way the phone will have the chance to fully boot.
