Gorilla Glass?
Can you guess my question? Does the Stratosphere have it?
I have looked around the web only to find some saying yes, and others saying no. And I cannot find an official answer anywhere.
Also, if it does, is thin plastic screen protector nessecary? I have noticed it reduces image qaulity, and I love my image qulity.
Thanks! - 12-29-2011, 02:19 AM #2

Re: Gorilla Glass?
They say that but I guess a couple variants didn't to keep prices down while Samsung worked on the GSII. I guess those were mostly sold overseas. No specifics on which ones though.
Also, a screen protector is like putting plastic wrap on a solid stainless steel door. It doesn't need it, but if it makes you feel better then do it. - 01-01-2012, 03:06 PM #5

Re: Gorilla Glass?
If I had to guess I would say it does not have GG. I have never had a screen protector on any of my phones in the past and never had a problem. With this phone just from being in my pocket scratches started appearing at an alarming rate. I keep my phone in my pocket with nothing else in the same pocket. Never dropped it, never abused it. Within a week I noticed a small cosmetic shallow scratch. By the time I put a screen protector on it within a month of buying it there were 3 light scratches, one about an inch long. They are very light and shallow and nearly invisible unless the light reflects with the right angle. My advice, get a screen protector.

I get a kick out of people who tell other people that because you have gg it is not necessary to have a screen protector. Technically no phone "needs" a protecter,, but if you don't ever want a scratch you should use one. Remember folks gg is scratch resistant, not scratch proof.

Re: Gorilla Glass?
I prefer the feel of the glass screen. I dont like the texture of screen protectors. A phone with GG is worth the risk because it is less likely to be damaged. I had an HTC Desire Z for a year with no screen protector and the screen is flawless. I had the strat for a month and the screen is lightly scratched in three places.

Steinheil ultra crystal is an unbelievable screen protector. It looks and feels like glass,, goes on dry, and is 15 bucks for a 2 pack. I have had the same one on my phone since launch and still looks and feels the same. Can't even tell its there. Someone on these forums turned me on to this product and i immediately dismissed him. I finally said what the hell its cheap enough and ordered one. Many months later i am still amazed at this products quality. If have tried all the top popular brands and none come close to this.

Re: Gorilla Glass?
I woulda tried it if I had that suggestion beforehand. Maybe I'll still try it. I am not good at putting these things on though and dust/air bubbles really annoy me. Im guessing I can only get these online, meaning I cant have the store put it on for me. I see online they say air bubbles will go away within 24 hours but air bubbles from dust cannot just go away. It is impossible to avoid all dust unless you have a clean room. At the end of the day theres nothing cleaner than no screen protector. Maybe Ill give this brand a try but I already have an invisible shield with almost no dust under it put on by radio shack.

I'm going to second everything zmann said. That's pretty much what I was going g to say. Steinheil ultra crystals are amazing. Pretty much unnoticeable.
To the guy that said something along the lines of a screen protector is the equivalent of putting a protector on something that's stainless steel...you're absolutely right...because ss scratches too. Everyone should really educate themselves on GG. It is more scratch resistant than regular glass, but its still glass. Anything harder will scratch it, and keys and coins are the least of your concerns. Grit that collects in the bottom of your pockets, or bag, or gets on your hands pretty much every day, will scratch GG just as easily as it will regular glass. - 03-01-2012, 08:05 AM #14
Re: Gorilla Glass?
I've always put a screen protector on everything with a screen. I'm a OCD nut when it comes to fingerprints and scratches. I use Write Right's universal protectors. They come in a pack of 10 for about 10 bucks on Amazon.
Never had any pressure problems, with any of my Android phones, while using those screen protectors.

Re: Gorilla Glass?
i emailed them yesterday and response was they had nothing and no plans at this time. Unless they get lots of requests which this isn't the most popular phone nor is steinheil the most known company. Just wait and see I guess. Anyone know the next best thing? Zagg, Bodyguardz, Xtremeguard, XOskins? Would like to get something that is actually resistant to scratches for my wife. But I guess anything would be fine while waiting for Spigen Sgp to step up.

Re: Gorilla Glass?
Yes, I just got a similar reply to an e-mail I sent them: no definite plans right now to make screen protectors for the Stratosphere, but that could change if there's enough interest from customers. Couldn't hurt if others here want to go to their Website and drop them an indication of interest. These sound like fabulous screen protectors.
