Stratosphere 2 Lock Button Issues

I have a Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere 2. Recently, the lock button has started to hardly work. When I try to restart the phone the screen goes black and it begins to vibrate rhythmically and can keep going like that for hours, never turning fully off. When I shut the phone down, it does the same thing. In order to restart the phone I need to pull and reinsert the battery so it will automatically restart (which it never did before, normally I had to hold the lock button for it to restart). Tech stuff is normally not my things so I'm very confused and slightly worried. Help!

Welcome to Android Central! When the phone is on, does the battery run down too quickly? If so, you may want to try a new battery. But if the battery seems fine, then there might be a problem with the Power button. Consider bringing it to a repair shop and seeing if they just need to clean it out, or perhaps replace it.
