Default [How-To] Easy root for the Transform

Rooting your Transform is pretty darn easy. It can be done using an application you install on your phone, called z4root.

This application isn't available in the market, but thats a small hurdle and easy to overcome. All you need is a file browser, and your USB cable

File browser -- if you don't have one, I suggest Astro. There are many others, but Astro is very simple to use and I highly recommend it to those who might be new to the Android platform. Search for "Astro file manager" in the Android Market, and install it on your phone.

Then it's a few easy steps to root:
    1. On your computer, . Read the first post in the thread carefully, and download the file that's attached. Also, notice the donation link if you feel like passing a few dollars to Ryan.
    2. Attach your phone to your computer, and just like you would drag a music file or picture to your phone, copy the z4root.apk file to your SD card. You can put it in any folder you like, just remember where you put it
    3. Unmount your SDcard from your computer, and unplug it.
    4. Go to menu>settings>applications. Make sure the "unknown sources" box is checked. Then go into the development settings, and make sure USB debugging is checked.
    5. Now open your file manager, and find the z4root.apk on your SD card. Press it, and choose Open App Manager (Astro gives this choice), then press the install button.
    6. Once installed, find the z4root app in your app drawer, and run it. Decide if you need a temporary root, or permanent. Select your choice, and go.

One last step you may want to do if you have chosen to permanently root is install busybox. Search the Android Market for "Busybox by Stephen (Stericson)" and install it. Busybox provides commands like copy and paste to the shell (the inner workings) of your OS.

Browse to the file with your file manager app and then long press and choose an option from the list, I believe the bottom one is the correct choice.

from SDX Developers and Vampirefo will get you rooted. It was painfully simple (once I got the right computer) and worked like a charm. From there, you can do anything to your phone that you want.

Since the first post in the z4root thread that @gbhil linked to says "Froyo is a bit of a pain to root! Well, this fixes that," I'm guessing it does work with 2.2/Froyo. Would love to hear from someone who's done it to confirm.

    thanks

Hey, I followed every step and(I think) I did everything right. I selected to permanently install the z4root and now I'm on a blue screen(appears to be an under-water background) and it has z4mod in the middle and at the bottom it says [I]running exploit in order to obtain root access[I]. it has been doing this for over 30 minutes... did I do something wrong? what should I do?

I am trying to root my phone and failing.
I have downloaded the z4zoot-(which the program calls its self z4mod)
I put the file on my phone
Removed my phone from my computer
I have installed the Program on my phone.
I ran the program. Did it for 30 minutes, then it restarted and was not rooted.
Took out the battery, and ran it again, and hour later, still not rooted, and didn't restart this time.
I uninstalled the program, and re-installed it.
I took it out once more, and let it run over night, still not rooted.
Once again uninstalled it, and re-installed it, took out the battery, and then restarted it to run again. Still did not root.
All it ever says it is doing is -{[(Running Exploit in order to obtain root...)]}- if I leave the page and come back it will say that it is saving a file or something, then go back to the running statement.
    What am I doing wrong?
