How to unlock Samsung brick phone?

Hey guys,

My friend is going to south america and needs to unlock her AT&T samsung brick phone so it works with other GSM carriers down there. Any idea how to go about this? I haven't been able to find any relevant threads on here about it, which doesn't surprise me, considering its a samsung brick phone, and not an android.

I figured you could simply slip a different SIM in there and wah lah, but she's claiming that AT&T said its not as simple as that.

Hopefully someone with good coding experience can help me out... I'm too spooked to search for a fix elsewhere because I've had rough experiences in the past... actual "bricked" phones... not fun

If you know of a quick fix or a hidden thread somewhere on here that gives some tips, please let me know - I've never tried unlocking any phone (only JB), let alone a non-android/iOS...
