    Junk aps factory installed

I think custom ROMs exist for the following reasons: 1. Many people find it fun to screw around and customize their phones extensively. No problem with that; reminds me a little of kids who customized their cars when I was young (many years ago, sadly ...). This is, in my opinion, the single...

    Junk aps factory installed

Absolutely inconsistent with my experience with my rooted, custom-ROMed phone. 1. Custom ROM had much more problematic Bluetooth performance. Now that I'm back to stock, I'm amazed how well the phone works with my car's Bluetooth system; it didn't at all when rooted. 2. Custom ROM consumed...

Nope. No guarantee of this at all.

    Junk aps factory installed

Oh, you're right, they sure do. But if you regard the app as "junk" it's unlikely you would have started it up, it seems to me. The fact an app is on your phone doesn't mean that it is "running in the background."

    Junk aps factory installed

First, if you don't use the extraneous apps they don't drain your battery. Apps not in use have no effect on battery life. Second, most people don't have a problem with memory space occupied by apps; if you do, try an app like Apps2SD to move as many as possible to the SD card. With 32GB of...

    Ready to root...I think

As posted elsewhere, none of the things you suggest are possible for me, since I have a completely dead phone. Does not respond to any inputs whatsoever. Won't power up, won't respond to attempts to enter download mode, does not show up as a device when plugged into the USB port on my...

    I have a dream...that one day I...

The ROM I had installed was the Infinity ROM. Was trying to flash back to stock ROM when all this happened. My phone does not go into download mode. It does not respond to anything. I've tried pressing pretty much every button combo possible with the power button, plugged in to computer or...

    I have a dream...that one day I...

Let me provide a counterpoint. I rooted, and regret it completely. 1. The "custom ROM" that I flashed after rooting proved to be inferior in many ways to the stock ROM, notably in the incredibly poor battery life I experienced. 2. Bluetooth function, never a strong point in this phone, became...

    Ready to root...I think

If the only reason you're rooting is to remove extraneous apps, I think it's stupid to root. Just get app2sd and move apps over to your SD card. If you never use the apps, they don't slow anything down. This comes from a poor sap who rooted his phone, discovered the "custom ROM" was far...

    Stock Gingerbread Want To Root

Look for the application Superuser among your apps list. If it's not there, you're probably not rooted.

Charge calendar sync with google calendar

One more suggestion: make sure you're using the same gmail address for both your phone and your gmail calendar account.

Charge calendar sync with google calendar

Go into your calendar app, hit "settings" and make sure you are using the Google calendar. Most calendar apps allow you to use at least two, and sometimes more, different calendars, but most allow you to select the Google one.

How do most users handle all these annoying app updates

I'm foursquare against automatic updates. If an app is doing what you want and need, why would you want to update? In my experience, updated apps typically offer little new functionality but add unpleasant side effects. Examples of apps that were better in old versions (for my purposes)...

    Rom Help

Trying to get the Swype beta keyboard from their website is no more difficult than doing brain surgery with a butter knife. You're right - I shouldn't have rooted, as the number of utter pains in the butt that this has introduced makes the squeeze far too much to get very little juice. I'm not...

    Rom Help

Be careful with the Infinity ROM. You'll lose Swype, and I can find no way to get the .apk file to re-load it. I also lost all the Amazon free-for-a-day apps that I had. I'm not glad that I rooted; more problems and no real solutions.

Quick question: Does the free hot spot widget work with GB?

Can't speak to that, but I was previously able to access the HotSpot feature using Elixir, and now I am not. So GB costs me $30 a month, which is not a very good deal.

    Is it that bad?

My quick answer is that I've used the Charge and find it to be an excellent phone. Pretty much every smartphone has people complaining about one or more aspects of it. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard or read "this (insert phone name) sucks," I could buy Manhattan. And for current...

In what ways, exactly? I don't really have any GPS problems. What else does it fix?

Android phone decision: Charge vs. Bionic?

I continue to be bemused by the fascination with "updates." I almost never update my apps; most of the time the "updates" cause more problems than they solve. OS updates may or may not solve specific problems we have with phones. I'm quite happy with Android 2.2. The Charge is a great, great...
