My 2nd gen 360 will go from 7am to 11pm on 25% battery. That's with 'Always on watch face' turned off, mind you. With that turned on I could still get to 11pm with 30% left. Seems to be very dependent on your watch face, though. The watch face I currently have drains the battery quite badly...

I had this happen with my 360 2nd gen. Went on a flight, put phone in aeroplane mode, but not watch. Got to the other end (1 hour flight) and watch was practically dead. It was probably around 90% to start with, but only had enough juice for an hour or so at the other end. So, yeah, always...
