Android Central's Free Droid X giveaway

Why the Droid X? Because it sounds so Xtreeemee!! ...and because it is a massive boost in performance over a stock Droid, with an awesome screen. Plus my coworkers keep rubbing their Incredibles in my face.

How often do you soft reset?

Technically speaking, he is saying, a shutdown/startup is a 'soft reset' because it is done via software. And, not knowing the Android OS that well, I would assume it does some cleanup and preparation before powering off through the OS, as opposed to an abrupt loss of power source.

How often do you soft reset?

I do a soft reset every once in a while. Just because Android seems to have great memory management doesn't mean that it is perfect. If I do a lot of installing / uninstalling of apps over the course of a week, I find a soft reset to be of help if things start acting sluggish.

battery only displays arty team percent intervals?

I'm pretty sure the firmware only reports increments of 10%. There are some widgets that will estimate what your level is at, but what the Android OS can receive from the moto firmware is not that exact.

battery only displays arty team percent intervals?

Its the fault of the Motorola firmware. It only reports in 10% intervals.

    Just a thought...

What types of things are you worried about running in the background? You can receive chat notifications, stream music (Pandora/Slacker), and browse the web simultaneously. Not sure what else you are looking for.

    Just a thought...

The adds that 'need' to run in the background too. For example, if you have Meebo running and connected to FB chat / AIM, you will receive messages as they are sent to you even if you are doing something else, like browsing a web page. As another poster stated, it is up to the application...

    Droooooid at startup

Yup, because its the sound made before the SD card is mounted yet, so it can't access any notifications you may have stored there.

    Droooooid at startup

That sound was being played to inform you of the SD card being mounted/unmounted. There is an option to turn that notification on/off, and it does use the generic notification sound. So if you changed that (most likely you did) it won't play it. Also as others have said, you may have your...

    Multitasking on the Droid

So instead of it being the fault of the apps that are crashing, its the OS's fault? Interesting. I would contact support for Slacker or Pandora. They are obviously resource intensive applications and may not be in such a stable form right now.

    Multitasking on the Droid

That's just the implementation of the stock browser. Try doing that in Dolphin. I just started to load a heavy traffic website, hit the home button, and when I went back to Dolphin the page was already loaded. Each app is written differently, its not always the OS's fault.

Google Earth (and where to find it)!

I searched and it came up just fine. Although just FYI, when you install it, it extracts to around 20Mbs ... I quickly uninstalled.

    vlingo beta vs 2.1 update

I just installed it and tried it out a few times. I agree its not as useful with the 2.1 update, but you can add the Vlingo widget to your home screen and click that to say 'text person message hey what are you doing tonight', or 'email person subject etc...' so its a lot quicker to access a...

    DROID 2.1 Update thread.

I actually feel like my phone is running smoother after the 2.1 update, even with a live wallpaper up. Also, the first time the new gallery loaded it was slow, but its extremely fast for me now.

Thinking of ditching the BlackBerry for the Droid

I definitely miss my Tour's keyboard, I could fly on that thing. The Droid's physical keyboard feels awkward and clunky at first, but I have gotten used to it and can type pretty well with it. I find myself using the portrait software keyboard a lot for quick replies and have gotten used to it...
